I think that CCP should develop the Noctis into a T2 ship that is able to perform the same functions as the Noctis but be able to run the belts solo.

T2 Noctis Slot arrangement :

High Slot - x6
Medium Slot - x4
Low Slot - x 4

Cargo Capacity - 1,200 m/3
Salvage Drone Bay - 25 m/3
Drone Bay - 100 m/3

Drone Bandwidth - 50 Mbit/sec

Ore Industrial Bonuses - same as Noctis

Skill Bonus - 5% Drone velocity and 5% Drone damage per level based on the pilots skill level.

Here is my experimental Noctis Fit for ratting in high sector belts -

High slots - Drone Link Augmentor x 2
Tractor Beam I x 3
Salvager I x 3

Medium slots - 1MN MWD II
Omni Directional Tracking Link I / Optimal Range Script

Low slots - 800 mm RSP II
DCU II
Drone Damage Amplifier II

Rig Slots - Medium Salvage Tackle I
Medium Tri-Mark Pump I
Medium Cargo Hold Optimization I

Drones - Five Light Hobgoblin II

101.4 Drone DPS, 268.28 max velocity, 1,679 m/3 cargo hold volume, 20,186 HP, 58/45/45/24 armor resistance.

It already exists and is called: Noctis

In low/high-sec you can exchange the Shield Power Relays for 1-2 Drone Damage Amplifiers. This will lower the tank to 261/198 but increases the DPS to 122/146.

We need a new type of Noctis.

Actually we need two new types of Salvager ships.

The TII version will geared for veteran explorers and belt salvagers.

The smaller T1 version would be built into the hull of the Venture Class Mining Frigate that will give Rookie Pilots the ability to get in on the salvaging trade at an earlier time.

-Any T1 scanning frigate

-A destroyer

Of all the things that could be added to the game, your idea was one to... rat highsec belts? Why not just propose we force new players into a period of obligatory slavery?

I don't think I have ever encountered a rat outside of a mission in Highsec that didn't die if I accidently looked at it with more than loving admiration.

Your regular Noctis can field a full flight of light drones, and has the slots for at least a few drone upgrade modules.

Salvage is tiny, you can fit tons of it in even a frigate cargo hold.

I am not sure what sort of niche it is you think a T2 Noctis as you describe can fill. If you are looking for something sturdy enough to survive substantial combat (highsec rats outside of missions or other pockets don't count) then you are probably looking at a Maurader, with it's tractor bonus and 3 utility highs. As a stopgap ship, Prophecy, Myrmidon, Armageddon and Dominix all make fine combat capable ships with the damage/tank for real combat and the freedom from launchers and turrets to make effective salvagers. The T2 drone ships, Sisters of EVE line, and Gurista line all would make excellent advanced ships for that purpose.

Basically, any drone ship will do well as a combat salvager. Guns and Launchers can speed up kill times, but any drone bonused ship can do well enough filling their high slots with utility, especially for highsec operation. With their Cov-ops cloaks and exploration bonuses the SOE line is probably best suited for that role outside of highsec.

I am all for more ship types, especially based on the Noctis style hull, but I just don't see this as being the role for it. Personally, I would love to see it dressed up as an Industrial Battlecruiser, with bonuses to foreman and siege links, expanded drone offense capability, and logi bonuses that cover the rainbow from shield to structure

Algos is a great entry level combat salvager. Really its faster and more practical to sweep through the belts with a combat ship and then come mop up in the noctis and just keep combat drones on hand in case of respawn

Drag the asteroids to a giant industrial that opens up 'You Only Live Twice' style and eats them...the indy is static whilst doing this though so needs constant defence :D

Indeed, even a Tristan is fine, assuming highsec belts. There just isnt much teeth in the high sec belt rats to challenge anything capable of shooting, and you would not fill a shuttles cargobay with the salvage from 10 belts. Maybe if you are looting modules too it could be an issue.

Its always been one of my biggest disappointments. There is a lot of ground between high sec lolrats and null sec battleship spawns with million+ bounties. The rats could be better scaled between 1.0 and 0.0 space. We should at least be seeing light cruisers with perhaps a very rare battlecruiser in .5 space.
