What are the origins of your characters name?

First name I was trying to think of something with a little edge. Slade sounded like Blade plus Deathstroke was a pretty cool character as well.

Trillgon was just pulled out of thin air.

You guys and Falcon are pretty much the most skilled trolls around here.

And that's why I still love you all so much. Oops

Many, many moons ago I played an MMO where they gave you a selection of first/surnames to choose from. You'd pick from a list of regional names depending on the location in the world you wanted to spawn into. I chose Australia naturally, and from the list of names I was given I chose Erica. I played there using that name for a long time, then eventually began playing a star wars MMO where I decided to also name my character Erica due mostly to familiarity. Then some years later again I find EVE and decided once again to name my character Erica for familiarity. Oops

In fact I'd become so endeared to the name over the years that it became one of my favorite. Can you guess what my daughter was named when she was born? Pirate

Dusette is kinda a random name that popped into my head at the time and seemed to flow well. In hindsight I regret it quite a bit as it's not very Achuran. If CCP ever offered some name change service that'd be the one thing I'd change.

The fine people who talked me into playing EVE were busily naming ships after various '80s songs. With that in mind, I picked an old favorite band from the 1980s, Camper Van Beethoven. The drummer is Chris Pedersen, often credited as "Crispy Dersen." The singer's name? David Lowery.

The funny thing is, it works.

Ah, I love Camper Van Beethoven, I listened the crap out of them, particularly their third self-titled record, a bona-fide classic in my book I used to play over and over again.

I couldn't get into their new recent album, or Lowery's Cracker in the '90s (Monks of Doom was good on the other hand), but their '80s output as CVB is amazing.

My name is a hybrid.

I had a Star Wars RP character whose last name was Zehn back in the 90s. Here is a short story. Smile

I never really thought I'd love EvE, but I gave it a try in 2005 since some RL friends started playing in 2003. I figured I would simply cancel my account, so I used my first name and took out the "n" to be a little more sci-fi or whatever. haha Smile

If I could change it, I'd add the "n" back into the name because people can never pronounce it... really difficult when I'm in a fleet!

So I tell people to call me DZ.

Mine's pretty straight forward, or in this case backward. From right to left meet first name and last name.

I don't see it.

My name goes back to the early days of the internet. I've always been the first to prepare for the long term, so I wanted my first email username to last a long time, to always suit me and never be taken by somebody else. I initially chose SpikeFromPhobos (Spike was my nickname at school and I liked Phobos, and considered myself to not fit in with humans), just because I didn't have a lot of time. I mulled it over for the next few weeks and eventually came up with The Reaver of Darkness - that's my permanent name on the internet and it has been so since before Youtube existed. I dropped my old email and went for that one (minus the spaces).

While brainstorming for esoteric words to use in the name, I thought of the word reaver, which I had seen in Starcraft initially and later in Soul Reaver (this was before Soul Reaver II). I looked it up--a reaver is something that takes something away forcefully. The word bereft is based on it. I thought it sounded cool and slapped darkness on and was thinking ooh that sounds neat, but I'm not a reaver kind of person and I'm not dark. But then I realize it can mean I take away the darkness. So that's officially what the name means now. I spread the light of knowledge and work to get rid of the lingering darkness of close-mindedness and bigotry.

I couldn't fit my name into EVE, so I used the short version for my first name and for my last name I used one of my WoW characters, Glitterstim (Farstriders US), named after that spice drug mentioned in Star Wars books. The official story behind the name of my EVE character is that while growing up in Clellinon, he came across an old tale about glitterstim, and he abandoned his birth name for the name Reaver Glitterstim as he intended to be a miner. He didn't know what would be out there but as he lived a sort of sheltered life, the only sort of treasure he was familiar with was Glitterstim.

And yes, if you're wondering, I do come up with the stories for the names after I come up with the names. I do a good job of covering for it though.

P.S.: I have been accused of taking the name from Soul Reaver II's darkness font, as well as from the reavers in Firefly. My name predates both. Trivia: I discovered Soul Reaver II by looking up my name on Google. I would show off that only I came up in the search, until one day Soul Reaver II was the only thing that came up in the search. I was furious and considered suing them for theft and misuse of intellectual property. True story.

No, I don't get how it relates to your name. The image is two cats and a newspaper. I tried reading your name backwards, it doesn't seem to make any more sense that way.

After I'd finished customizing her in the character creator. I sat back, looked at her for a few minutes to see what came to the surface, and "Nova Serine" just sort of materialized. Seemed a proper fit so I went with it. Haven't regretted it.

Decided to lighten things up a little with this alt, named him after Bobby Slayton's character in Tim Burton's ' Ed Wood' in order to give myself the full effect.

I named my kitten after my old Charmed alt. Only a few people still call me Pheebs in comms but whenever they do (I detest headsets) she squeaks in surprise from somewhere in the house and comes to investigate, which always amuses me ;) Except when she runs off with the mic.
