What are the origins of your characters name?

So how did you come about with your particular character name for EVE? What on earth were you thinking when you picked that name?!? Lol Does it hold some special meaning we don't know about? Some hidden knowledge that you are willing to share about it here? Or is it just some wild thought of the moment that you may still appreciate or even regret? And if you could change your character name, would you, and let someone else take it if they could?

And lets not talk for our alts/mains, post with your name, then let it fly, then post with the other if you feel so inclined at some point. Feel free to comment on peoples replies, just keep it flowing towards the general topic as usual.

My answer:
Regardless to popular opinion, it's not Web-Van, just Webvan, rhymes with my rl name. My nephew played EQ1 with me, made a character name that rhymed with my name, and the thought crossed my mind when trying to find an untaken name in EVE. Not the same name he used, just another rhyme which I rolled with. Never used the name elsewhere, prolly never use it anywhere else. I don't regret the choice, I wouldn't change it, and not concerned what it may or may not imply. But even on that, I chose it to imply different things as well, not just be completely random (no offense to "Random McNally"), but acceptable as to apply different meanings rather than some straight RP style name. But it's mine, mine the precious!

I'm in it for the money

Mixture of Malaclypse the Younger, author of the Principia Discordia, a book I was led to after thoroughly enjoying The Illuminatus! Trilogy, one of my personal all-time classics; and on the other hand Amanita muscaria, a hallucinogenic mushroom. It's a pretty mushroom, reminds me of Super Mario mushrooms.

Sibyyl is a version of Sibylla which is a name I thought was interesting when I was reading about the Crusades. I tried 'sibyl' for my AOL username, but somebody already had it so I added a 'y'.

My name was an inside joke between me and the guy who got me into EVE. One of those "seemed like a good idea at the time" kind of things. Would I change it if I could? Yeah - but probably not a lot, as ingame folk are familiar with it now. I see many great names in EVE, but mine isn't one...oh well...guess it could have been worse

For me, I like the name Seraph. However its the last name that means something to me:

S - A - L = Ess - ae - ell = Essael

Quoted from Doc Fury: "Concerned citizens: Doc seldom plays EVE on the weekends during spring and summer, so you will always be on your own for a couple days a week. Doc spends that time collecting kittens for the on-going sacrifices, engaging in reckless outdoor activities, and speaking in the 3rd person."

"Riyria" is from a fantasy novel trilogy I enjoyed: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riyria_Revelations
In the books it's not the name of a character, but the name of a pair of thieves, some elven word meaning something with "two" or "partners" or something, I don't remember anymore.
I just liked how the name looked, so I've been using it in some games.

"Twinpeaks" .. well, for some reason as I created this character the old tv show "twin peaks" came to my mind, which is weird since I've never watched it. Nevertheless, I chose to use it as last name, somewhat of an unfortunate decision according to some comments I've gotten about it so far, haha.

i've been "eurydia" for a long time in several other mmo's. i just tossed "vespasian" in honor of a roman emperor, on the end because this game seemed like one of those games where you have two names when i was creating the character.

I wanted a fairly generic name that have a gritty fealing to it, that will sound rough but also sophisticated, and as being not a native english speaker I did not care much about a meaning.

Now when I look at it, I think about rat in a bag.

Mine is a name that i originally used back in Runescape. I took it from a commander of UCS forces from the RTS Earth: 2150 Lost Souls. Marcus Gordin. The 'in' part didn't fit when i made the name back in Runescape, so Marcus Gord was born.

i now use it, or Marcus Gordin if it'll fit, on every online game i play Smile

if you see a Marcus Gord(in) anywhere on other games, say hi, it's likely me.

In a few moments you will have an experience that will seem completely real. It will be the result of your subconscious fears transformed to your conscious awareness.

An 'Ezwal' is a six legged, highly intelligent and telepathic 'monster' with razor sharp nails and icepick like teeth, featuring in a few stories by SF writer A.E.Van Vogt.
Not a particularly good writer or even noteworthy stories, but the name and especially what it stands for is quite appropriate for an ISD member tasked with moderating the EvE forum....Twisted

I have no idea what the original owner of this character was thinking, and I still facepalm over enthusiastically whipping out the credit card as a noob and buying various characters (all legally). The other one is a Charmed character, not sure which irritates me more. Seemed amusing at the time Roll

First main was a Lilith of some sort - I really have no imagination with names, even naming ships stump me sometimes. I think she had an underscore or some wierd spacing in her name (and after a few weeks I decided Gallente were terrible) so she got biomassed. Still don't regret that oddly.

Second one first name/second name pulled from two different short stories. All of my more imaginatively named characters get mangled in comms. I never really consider what certain accents will do to names when I roll them, so usually end up saying "Oh for god's sake just call me Marsha". Compounding the problem, I've been pouting over this name thing since 2008.

I have these though, was pretty smug when I found they weren't taken and they amuse people in trade channels:

Blueprint Copies

In RL, I've had the nickname "chaos" or "chaotic" for many many many years. It appears, that I tended to be unpredictable.

When I decided to play EVE, I know I was stewing over a name for a couple of days. One day at work, I looked upon one of those pull down classroom maps and at the bottom was the Corp name "Rand McNally".

Didnt' take to much effort to change "Rand" to "Random".
