Returning back to New Eden

After a massive amount of Real Life experiences I'm able to return back to the game. It looks as if I am going to have to look at the manufacturing part of things. I'm too old a greybeard to get into PvP (my synapses seemed to have calcified in the seventies), I find PvE and mission running uninteresting as I could well be playing a man vs machine game and the idea of manufacturing most interesting of all.

I've done some reading and what little I know of manufacturing I can follow. But there's one or two questions that I would like to ask.

Firstly is it best to find a manufacturing base near to a market hub (say within three or four jumps) or should one go deep into LoSec?

Secondly. The blueprints. Yes we all know that they could be made more efficient to reduce time/wastege and for the starting industrilast with little funds does that mean searching LoSec for empty labs to use?

Pretty much all of this will change with the upcoming industry changes. Generally its good to stay close to a hub to minimize logistics costs, but post-changes you will want to be based a little further out so your system isn't overpopulated. Slots won;t be an issue after the changes as they are being removed in favour of a cost scaling system, so it will all be about dropping that cost (by being in a low population system). The dev blogs are well worth a read.
