The monument is a result of ccp taking itself way to seriously. That someone tagged the monument with an alliance logo imo actually gives that monument significance and a real connection to the game and the players. Would certainly be "cool," again imo, if it became a fanfest tradition for folk to sneak out there and tag it with your alliance/corp logo.

edit - didnt realize that the op was talking about the scratching out of someone's name as opposed to the alliance tag that happened earlier. Opps.

Eve and the internet in general gives a lot of people the opportunity to say and do things they wouldn't normally do. However, it seems some people really are that way. While most people act like jerks on the internet, they're actually decent people irl.

Then there's those who act decent irl and have the opportunity to be their true selves on the internet, acting like jerks :/

Yeah lets put EVE players are criminals in perspective
During pubcrawl a window was seen broken, everyone dutifully thought it was a result of the pub crawl and inquired on the repairs
It turned out it was unrelated

In another point, no one got arrested even though the police went and were watching closely

My sister still managed to rip a guys shirt off because she thought it was the flag

I am seriously disappointed and in fact angry at this act of high retardation. I would want the person responsible made to pay for the repairs and then charged by the local police for Vandalism. No he would not get jail time obviously but the full remit of punishment for this offence must be used. ( Fine, Banning Order, Community Work,)

I feel let down that a co-player of EVE has denigrated the monument that CCP put up for all of us. We as players have a unique relationship with CCP and them with us.

They must be upset in CCP HQ that they spent time and money on this and they are repaid by an act of malevolence. Luckily they will know that 99% of EVE players leave their nefariousness at the keyboard!

I am not interested in a public naming and shaming or a witch-hunt. I just want the person dealt with and then a CCP announcement saying " Case closed " and the Sculpture is repaired and wholly intact.

As an aside maybe some security measures will have to be taken to prevent copy cat attacks etc , more expense for CCP.

First off, who ever put the little bee sticker on and took a photo.. lol

It was a bit a fun, no damage was done. I actually thought it was quite cute Big smile

As for other, actual damage has been caused. It was a malicious attack directed at that person and then they attempted to shift the blame to somebody else.

You can not and should never compare the two.

National monuments have their own security that use house rights to enforce rules of behaviour independent and on top of criminal law.

I have removed some rule breaking posts and those quoting them. As always I let some edge cases stay.

If people think it is smart to disregard Falcons warning in his last post about the way to behave in this thread, think again. CCP is taking this very seriously and it would be quite foolish to taunt them for it or over it at this point.

Just to poke in this forum lawyering. I have spent a few years hanging out with writers and street artists, doing some support stuff for them and laws are very different in various countries. Punishment for writing and stickers varies from removing the art piece to 8 years of jail (this harsh one is related do folks doing a plane two weeks after 9/11 in Bratislava Airport).

Damaging memorials, statues or buildings considered to be national heritage can be punished much harder. Criminal charges for this can include hate crimes (destruction of Jewish cemetries and such) and fines going to hundreds of thousands €/USD. Completely different "sport".

On the issue raised by the Grr Goons people. Free speech is guaranteed constitutional right in all 1st world countries and it should not be confused with EULA which serves to protect customers of private companies. Yes there are people trying to bend this, trying to avoid public ridicule (mostly nerds and politicians). In real life there is no GM to stand up for you and no thought police to protect the butthurt people (for now, also can I say butt here ?)

Stealing the idea from my local graveyard maint. guys, in fact. They've started sealing text on grave markers with plexi, coz dimbulbs have been defacing headstone test for lulz.


Reposting for emphasis. I don't think vandalism was really expected or accounted for for the monument, which is actually not surprising given Reykjavik's (relatively) small size and community. Some kind of coating however would be useful at the very least.

Also - Someone poking at the monument with a knife causing this kind of damage kinda has me worried about the claim that it will stand for 1000 years. ;p

If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all...

Ah yes, hopefully this person will be thrown to the wolves by his alliance mates. For one thing it would look pretty bad for the alliance if this person was found and alliance mates where seen to be withholding this information of this criminal act from CCP. Would blacken the entire alliance.

Also in a more general sense, I would hope that we, the eve community, do not want people like this amongst us. So it is in everyone's best interest for anyone with knowledge of this to immediately notify CCP or risk being tarred with the same brush.

The thing that really gets me, is fanfest attendees are generally guests in another persons country who kindly offer to host this event in good faith. It is completely disrespectful to vandalise a statue which is as much owned by the Icelandic people as it is owned by the eve community.

The person who did it should be totally ashmed about this. Imo, that's the most stupid thing I've ever seen in my life.

Speaking about finding who did it, a friend of mine who's working at twitter gave me the confirmation that the ip was located in Reykjavik when the tweet was sent. Also, they can have a lot of other informations from their log and quickly find who's behind it.

But it's CCP and the Icelandic police that need to go to them and twitter need to accept to start investigation.

I agree, I may not like you Xenuria and may disagree with you on many things. That said, I would take that over the forums or in game.
