You've obviously never been to Fanfest, otherwise you would realize that EVE Online and CCP as a company are some damn special **** in Reykjavik. The monument isn't a 'lol we're so amazing lololol'. It's a tribute to the amazing impact EVE Online has on Iceland as a country and Reykjavik as a city. EVE Online is one of the biggest export products in Iceland. EVE Fanfest is one of the, if not THE biggest tourist event of the year in Reykjavik.

The monument represents the impact of our digital universe on the real lifes of people living in Reykjavik. And that's pretty damn special if you ask me.

Confirmed, even their expatriates have an appreciation for ccp.
I have studied and worked with people who have been in the head office for school tours, have the danger game at home.
Ye can be as cynical and jaded about the motive behind it as ye like but that monument is bigger than just us.

I don't dispute "waste" part but "my money" part. Whatever I think about that monument is irrelevant because I didn't pay for it. I pay for Eve subscription, what happens next with money I pay is none of my concern.

We are paying for an access to a game and that is all we can be entitled to. If you think you don't get your money worth you are free to go elsewhere because you know what? Contrary to popular misconception around here we don't own Eve, CCP does. And we can't tell CCP what to do especially if that involves product/services/events they decide to engage into.

At the risk of getting flamed yet further, I submit that the monument is less of a waste of time and resources than putting DUST 514 on PS3.

At least the monument is about EVE.

Hopefully this encourages CCP to come up with some kind of protective covering that's cheaper to replace if damaged than the plates are, much like you see applied over public art.

Seeing that pic is taken in Reykjavik and posted on a new twitter account, i am pretty sure it was posted through a free wifi service from Iceland itself. The culprit is most probably a fanfest attendee.
