Seeking Advice about Multiple Characters

I started a 21 day buddy trail with one character but want to buy a full membership with another. They gave us three character slots and I thought we could train or play any of them....but..

when i went to train what I would like to use as my main character, a message popped up saying i would have to buy a FLEX which appears to allow another training slot for only one month at a time. equal to the full membership monthly fee and a bit more.

so.....

what is the story?

do we have to abandon any secondary character and all of its accumulated skills and inventory if we want to play an alternative?

Is is possible with a full membership to train and play with several characters?

I am assuming i cannot transfer the skills and the inventory from my first character to what I would like to use....

can anyone help with info on this?

I dont mind abandoning my first character as i learned a lot..but i had thought we would be allowed to play and train with all three...not so?

Finally....can we train any ONE of the three character slots... switching between them? I think that is how it works...and the FLEX allows us to add a slot for simultanious training by two or three if we buy the slots. If i can change the training to my desired Alt that may work out ok.

You can use a PLEX to purchase dual training, which in some cases can be handy if you just need to skill up the alt for a month or two.
There is no other way to train two characters on the same account at the same time.
However, you can train whatever character you choose on that one account whenever you want. If you want to spend 5 minutes training on one, then the next 6 months on another, there is nothing that prevents you from doing this.

Reason for this, well.. at least in my opinion i would assume its because a system like that would see a lot of abuse and would wreck the sales of characters pretty quickly.
That and there would be no reason to pay for a second account Lol

Which leads me to the next point.
You can buy a second account, which will allow you to train skills just like you can with your first character. However you should know that a trial account cant be logged in at the same time as a full account.
So, if you want to do this, be prepared that you have to upgrade it fully in order to log them in at the same time.

Edit; Once your on a full account you can contract items between your characters, does not matter if they are on the same account or not. Same goes for ISK.

As NightCrawler said, you can play and train all three characters, just not at the same time.

To play another character, you first have to log out your current character.
There is no way to play two characters from the same account concurrently, for that you'll need a second paid account.

To train another character, you have to first log into your currently training character, stop its skill queue, and log out. Then you can log into the second character and start training it.
You can pay one extra PLEX per month to train two characters of your account at the same time. But usually a full second account is more advantageous, unless it's a really short train.

Once you upgrade to a full account, you can transfer ISK and items between them freely. You can also pay, 10 dollars I think, to transfer a character from one account to another.

One other thing, it's possible to transfer a character from one account to another. It costs either 2 plex or 20 USD (RL money option is cheaper in this case). This can be done at the account management website. The character must be in NPC corp at the time of transfer and it will take a day or so to go through.

Yeah, pretty much what the other people said.

1) You can only train one character PER ACCOUNT at a time - unless - you purchase a plex. Thus - it costs you about $15 a month to per character you want to train.

2) If you get a second account - then you can train a character from each at the same time. Or spend plex on second characters from each.

3) As a new player - it's going to be fairly difficult to come up with the funds in game to fund a plex every month - unless you're just buying the plex with real money rather than trading for one with ISK.

4) You can play as many accounts from one computer as it will run - unless - one of them is a trial account - in which case the game only allows the trial account to run if you run it. Of course - if you don't run the trial account - you can run as many full accounts as the computer can handle.

5) Do you really want to split your training across multiple characters? As a new person - probably not. What your characters can do is largely dictated by the skills they have. The more skills you have the easier it is for you to make money. Thus, it is better, to concentrate on building up one character per account until they can bring in a decent amount of ISK - then - think about creating another character.

6) Alt's are expensive - in terms of in game money and playing time. You have to buy skill books for them and ships as well as spend time on them when you could be making more money with your main. So - before you create an alt, either on the same account or on another account - think - do I really need to do this? Only if you have a specific need that you can identify is it a good idea to create an alt.

7) Even with multiple accounts - having 2 characters is NOT going to make you twice as much money as having one. For each account/character you create - there is a certain amount of overhead you incur managing that character. So, not only are they expensive - adding characters can quickly reach a point of diminishing returns. Each one you add - makes the use of the others less efficient.

8) Some activities lend themselves better to using multiple characters from multiple accounts simultaneously. Mining can make very good use of multiple accounts. PVE less so. PVP ... you really want to know what you're doing before trying that - or it's just that many more ships you'll lose.

Thank you all, i joined and am a full member now so i look forward to being able to share funds and equipment between my characters.

. My first character was a kind of whimpy fellow that didnt reflect my personality or me...but i didnt understand the body sculpting feature, that should be explained better in the game instructions, that you actually MAKE changes ON the character body by clicking on various areas and dragging..and the process is very sensitive and not easy to use at all.

So i have indeed started investing major time and effort into my main and second character shown on my avatar to the left, she is a hardened veteran of many space encounters, insidious and deadly family and political feuds and no stranger to the dangers of live in EVE or life anywhere humans roam. I hope to develop funding thru mining which i enjoy for I am a solitary soul and the peace found between the stars soothes my soul. I am very happy with the time it takes... and plan to explore and spend time on that side as i HATE conflict and plan to avoid PVP whenever and wherever possible but if i am cornered i plan to carry the biggest stick i can afford and wont take trouble sitting down on my afterburners.

I am enjoying taking the tutorials again as i can benefit from lessons learned, and learn more about the world of EVE as i go along.

thank you so much for all the kind help and assistance, that is probably the major factor in my staying in for at first glance EVE is daunting even to a veteran of just about every space sim since Asteroids, including olides like Tachyon, BC3000, Wing Commander, Freepace, Freespace OpenSource Upgraded, Indie War I and II, and many more.

thanks again... see you between the stars.

Just so you know, you can change the basics of your avatar for free as many times as you want (hair, portrait, makeup..), and you can use a PLEX to be able to change everything else.

And since i forgot in my previous post, welcome to EVE Big smile

Thank you Nightcrawler, hope to see you in space sometime. I have a "sister" character i will try that PLEX on she is very grumpy and complaining a lot about how she turned out..she will be happy for a makeover.

thanks again.
