Can we turn off the new jump animation?

Is this a joke? If that jump gate animation makes you weezy may I suggest none of you peeps ever even consider going on a cruise or any seabound ship for that matter.

Yes, seabound ship. Because of all the other ships we have. Big smile

I'm not affected by the new jump animation in terms of nausea or motion sickness, but I don't see the reason why the old method of jumping is unavailable to switch to. I actually LIKED the old jump, hearing the gate wind up with a big WOOSH while hearing the hum of the gate for several seconds til the next system loaded.

It's like an indescribable little quirk that I miss from something so simple as K-space travel.

I have issues with heights in real life they make me qeasy as ****, this animation hasnt bothered me tje slightest...and yes for all those thinking it I HAVE done long trips over a long period of time. In fact when this issue was first brought up I jumped on the test server and all I did for two hours were non stop jumping. Aside from the bordem factor, I wasnt even phased with it. Given the number of people bringing it up there are two possibilites: a **** ton of eve players get motion sickness easily or an organised few are enlisting the help of those who arent affected to change it. It is literally tje same effect as warping except darker. The fast camera movement may affect some but not this many people. With that being said, if you need CCP to take dev time out to alleviate your sickness issue so be it, personally id suggest getting up from the keyboard once every 30 minutes as any intelligent doctor would suggest as well. Even if you arent having the issue it helps prevent eye strain.

Oh look, more sound medical advice and opinons from someone who is obviously a doctor. And a medical statistician at that, who clearly knows exactly what percentage of the population is suffering from a given condition. Oh wait, nevermind, it's just another random person projecting his own personal experience onto everyone else and assuming it must be the same for everyone.

In my case, the jump animation triggers migraines. The warp animation does not. You can say they are the same, but clearly they are different enough that one is causing a problem while the other is not. I put the blame on the flashing lights within the jump tunnel, as I have had similar issues with other pulsing light sources.

As for the nausea, there are differences in the transparency of the warp tunnel allowing outside reference points whereas the jump tunnel removes all frame of reference, the sudden shifts to and from first person perspective, etc. The bottom line is that there are plenty of reasons why the jump animation is causing issues for people who have no problems with the warp tunnel.

At this point, I really don't care if you think this is a problem worth CCP's time or not. The fact is that there are those of us for whom it is a problem. There are CCP devs for whom it is a problem. CCP has admitted it is a problem, and have promised to fix it. We're just here waiting for that promise to be kept.

Why a switch on/off? Because the new animation doesn't add anything to gameplay and it's graphically annoying. In other words, it's worse than bad: it's useless. Simple as that.     _ - Kina Ayami_

I love when this thread pops to the front page. My suggestion is to get Brave Newbies to complain about this. They got hull rep drones and a boost to the max corp size. If they complained about newbros being sick from warp animations I bet it would be fixed.

In the beginning, the new animation bothered me a lot. I, too, was looking for an off switch.
Now, I do not even notice it anymore.

As for the getting-migranes-only-when-this-animation-is-shown-guy™: I call BS.
I'm 99.9% sure you're full of it. And for the rare case that you're not, you should seriously consider spending more time hugging a tree in fresh air than sitting in front of a computer screen.
You could create content for other sufferers by building a cyno network so all other sufferers of chronic migranes - ONLY for this one animation - can move around.

1. The jump animation is not smooth.
2. Poor coding job.

5 clients at a time and never had lag that related to the jump animation.

Installing the entire client to a pure 16 gig ram disk (ImDisk) does not alleviate the forced camera swing nausea.

I had to do 40 jumps today and I got sick from the effect. Nice game design, really deep.
Now i have to put the hand in front of my eyes evey time i jump!

Why isn't this fixed yet? Its embarrassing that this crazy camera bug hasn't been patched out by now.

I'm sad to hear about your disabilities.

Most people can shift their eyes away from their monitor for a few seconds.

Not reading 90 pages. But I do have a question that may be answered or not...

How many other effects can we switch off and on or back and forth? Other than camera shake?

To me the whole animation thing is dumb. I'm not against making graphics better but playing a prerecorded animation over, over and over isn't doing that.

Many of the "effects" just make game play annoying. "Camera shake" is at the top of my list. Thank god you can turn it off because I would have quit ages ago. I don't have any disability but watching that gave me motion sickness.

On the positive side I do like how they made planets and other objects in the game look better.

I guess this is one way to deal with people that have disabilities. I can tell someone in a wheelchair to park their car a block away then roll their fat self to the door or I can give them a handicap parking place. P

Well, considering the past of this games development, seeing as the potential for people playing who would be affected by the jump gate animation in a negative way is probably really small, that small amount of people will not justify CCP's allowing it to be turned off.

Maybe so but I compare it to CCP's experiment with the "In station" environment. Of course they got more hate from that than the jump gate thing.

there is no old system anymore
I agree with OP. Old system may be gone, but at the very least allow turning the gate transition off, prevent gate transitions from resetting camera distance from ship, and a new option to not point camera view at the brightest object in space are needed. Otherwise, you may lose a paying customer.

and at least for the in station environment there was some prior demand from the players after the idea was floated by CCP.

With the gate animations and autoscan I don't recall anyone complaining or demanding any graphical changes in those areas. But there is now a population of players that are either annoyed or adversely affected by these graphical changes. How large or small is debatable, but sizeable enough to generate this thread.

CCP should devote what surely can't be much programmer time to giving us an off button.

CCP, there are off buttons for ship explosions, missile effects, turret effects, etc. "Immersion" does not seem to be harmed by those. So, please give us a persisting off button for the jump gate and autoscan visuals.
