Can we turn off the new jump animation?

Yep, many people find a workaround for these wonderful ne . . now rather old features. Avoiding the game graphics so one can watch porn or whatever. How's that for immersion CCP? Another workaround is just playing less and less. One of these days . . . and no, my stuffs will just rot on a harddrive somewhere.

CCP, there are off buttons for ship explosions, missile effects, turret effects, etc. "Immersion" does not seem to be harmed by those. So, [u]please[/u] give us a persisting off button for the jump gate and autoscan visuals.

I can't get p0rn movies to work on eve browser, any advice?

Also, if you do decide to leave you really should donate your stuff to anti-squid activities, mate. We'll put it to good use until you get back.

Just dropping in to say, the new animation is unneccessary and even annoying, and that time and money could have been spent on improving your 0/10 GUI but you gave up on that a decade ago anyway, I suppose.

Eve too complicated? Try Astrum Regatta.

What they don't already have one? What if you don't know what jumping is? How can Eve players learn without this?? You honestly can't expect them to right click and show info! Way too much effort!

CCP, we get it. You took a lot of trouble coding these new jump animations. All the green lines connecting stars within your route show you a pretty backdrop map of where you are going. It is very pretty. Is that what you wanted to hear?

Now with all that out of the way, allow us to turn that **** off. How things look does not matter. Make it work and not cause people irritation or discomfort. Granted how it looks now is pretty amazing, but I just do not care about how it looks. While traveling gates, I am constantly irritated by all the bright lights. I have to manually move camera angle away from bright lights, but often the jump animation points directly at them with no option to "look away". I suppose an option I would accept is some sort of light filter for the brightest areas of space (sun and gas clouds).

I've been reading the comments on the tooltips, and it's giving me serious deja vu.


  1. CCP rolls out a new feature.

  2. EVE players find the feature annoying and obtrusive to their gameplay, and so request an off switch.

  3. CCP makes empty promises to consider feedback and make the feature "less bad," but due to pride in their "accomplishments," never give any indication that they will even consider an off switch as a viable alternative.


Will CCP ever learn?

Why a switch on/off? Because the new animation doesn't add anything to gameplay and it's graphically annoying. In other words, it's worse than bad: it's useless. Simple as that.     _ - Kina Ayami_

well, apparently a tooltip delay timer in the escape menu wasn't too hard to implement.

so how about a delay timer on the jump gate visuals such that they just get overridden by the session change and display of the new system? That way we don't have to see them unless we want to see them?

doesn't fix the mandatory autoscan graphics infliction. But hey I'd take half a fix at this point.Ugh

It's not so bad that very many people are willing to stop playing the game.
CCP still gets paid, so it's just as well for them.

It's probably way too late for feedback about the jump animation, but here are the issues for me:

  • The spinning at the beginning
  • The spinning at the end
  • The lack of camera control in the middle


The warp animation doesn't force you to a particular perspective, camera distance or camera angle. The jump animation does force you to a particular perspective, camera distance and camera angle, and it also change the angle quite drastically (so you can be looking "through" the star gate to see the "awesome" jump tunnel.

Then during the jump you have no camera control. During a warp you can turn the camera and admire your ship while waiting the two minutes for that 120 AU warp in Barkrik.

The jump animation then zooms and starts panning the camera around at the other end.

After about the third or fourth jump in a row, this starts to get annoying.

As for ideas about what might be cool: how about instead of a "tunnel" effect, you have a "space warp" effect where the destination sky-box and star are loaded, and you then proceed to stretch the star gate's volume into a hole through which you can see the destination skybox, then pull this construction "over" the viewer's "camera", effectively pushing the spaceship through the wormhole, then collapse the wormhole behind the ship in a reverse of the previous operation. Then start loading the overview with objects as the server is feeding the data to the client. Of course this might end up being worse for some people than the constantly spinning camera, but it would be awesome :)

We need to sit down with those wormhole simulators and determine what this transition would actually look like. The warp tunnel effect for gate and cyno jumps is a little boring and tired. In the linked article, the two locations are a university campus and a beach. Those scenes are what I mean the source and destination system's skyboxes.

Maybe we could have an option to make the new tooltips even bigger so they just cover the entire screen, thus solving this issue?

Okay CCP you add 31 sliders for changing every possible sound effect's volume but not even a simple check box for jump animation?
