ECM Idea

Let's face it, how ECM works right now is pretty stupid. The fact that you can completely disable a ship is extremely dumb. Anyone can have a Falcon alt cloaked out of range and once you engage them or they start losing the fight you get permajammed and sit there like a ******** duck untill your inevitable death. I think this system has to go.

What I'm proposing is that the ECM rather confuses your targeting system instead of jamming you completely so that it's no longer reliable while under ECM jamming. If you're getting ECM'd, you first lose all or some of your targets, but then when you try to relock the targets while under ECM jamming, your ship will lock random ships within your targeting range (friendlies included).

Firstly this would make ECM less annoying in solo situations with the "solo" player with a Falcon alt on standby as the Falcon would be pretty useless. Secondly it would also scale with gang size and not be complete garbage in larger fights as the more targets there are the more effective it is. It would still counter logis pretty hard as they would lock random targets and cant really focus on the targets they are repping, and wouldnt be overpowered since it would only be a few ships that have their targets all messed up.

Basically the idea is to make ECM annoying/confusing instead of completely disabling the targeted ship. The ship bonus for the ECM strength would maybe be replaced with duration of the ECM or a factor that made the receiving less likely to target the correct target.

Thoughts?

Who cares? ECM isnt a big deal, any ship good at it has no tank to compensate.

ECM drones, yeah the anger about them I understand.

Either way there is a counter module, fit some ECCM and permajam just doesnt excist anymore. Now proceed to kill the very expensive T2 ship with no tank.

There is a counter, don't be lazy/stupid and use it.

That or get a friend/alt yourself to deal with it.

Just because YOU can't beat it, doesn't mean the whole game needs to be changed.

Also, never flown a Falcon in my life. My statement above is not of self interest, but just an observation of game mechanics.

I'm not that bothered with ECM either I just think the mechanics and concept are out of place and dumb and suggested some changes to it

If only there was some features and idea forum where stupid ideas could be posted... like removing an entire set of e-war by simply clicking target a lot.

I am a Falcon pilot with Recon and max skilled to boot. Confirming that its pretty much impossible to permajam someone any more if they are flying anything that has been rebalanced, T2, T3, has their sensor comps trained, or is ECCM fit. Then you die because CCP nerfed ECM range again.

As far as your proposal, I kind of like the random targeting idea. Let me make sure I understand. You hit someone with ECM. If it is successful, they suddenly get all their locks scrambled to random targets. This would happen only at the start of the ECM module cycle, and only once per cycle.

The counter is of course skills and ECCM. Or the afore-mentioned ships. For a pilot operating under the influence of ECM, he/she would simply have to retarget. This is very similar to ECM burst. But more entertaining and much longer range.

Tbh, you could get the same effect if targeted ECM simply broke locks, rather than reducing max targets to zero.

I like it.
My personal idea for ECM is to make it work kinda like a Target Spectrum Breaker. It would simply feign the targeting system that the ship it´s attemping to lock is in more different positions.
The target would have a x percentage that lock/targeting attempt fails. The percentage should depend on Sensor Strength, Jam strength and the number of active locks and attempted locks. The more locks, the higher the percentage.

Didn't realize solo included using multiple characters.

Lowering the average to make you look better since 2012.
