The Importance of Failure

I spent a number of years in the start-up community and one thing you learn is that failure is not something to be feared- failure is a natural part of experimentation. What's most important is that you fail fast and you fail 'forward', that is, learn from your mistakes and move on.

Many of you probably have read about the recent official cancellation of WoD, for which I must applaud CCP for having the guts to fold. I'm sure it's a difficult decision to make- you have investors, a community, employees especially, who are going to hurt from this, but you have to make the best from a bad situation. The only thing to really question is... could you have killed it sooner? What did you learn from the project? What can be salvaged?

This isn't CCP's first failure nor its last, but failure is not doom and I look forward to more failures in the future- the more, the sooner, the better, because each of those failures should be a step towards the next success.

Maybe. Posting negative info on Glassdoor can be stupid too, though. If you are applying for a job with a decent company that has decent HR that does a decent background check, they'll probably go there to see if you posted something (under your former position cross referenced w/ you last day there) and if they get a match and the writing matches your resume they might not hire you because of it. Personally were I in their shoes I'd write a glowing review of CCP even if the job was total garbage and sign that crap w/ my name. That's just good self promotion...

Signatures should be used responsibly...

I'm amazed it wasn't canned at the same time that Incarna/WIS was effectively "shelved", and to that end you have to wonder what the fate of the CQ will (eventually) be.

Sci-fi themes have a basis in reality, unlike fantasy. The EVE universe could happen someday. Vampires and fairies..I doubt it very much.

But then again I see goth EMO kids around with the Herman Munster make-up on that actually believe this Twilight crap.

Give me the days when vampires were scaryy monsters, not your boyfriend.

The whole blood thing is disturbing enough.

EDIT: Lesson learned here is that sci-fi is forever. Vampires were a temporary fad and not worth investing in.

It should have been canned earlier. It sounds like it was a project with a scope that kept growing, and with funding that didn't.

Eve has played out. They should have already started Eve2 tbh. I would hope they could learn from the mistakes and short comings of this game and take that to the next.

Are you saying that an immortal breed of human who is sealed within a wooden coffin during the day, can control people with his mind, and subsists off the blood of his fellow man is somehow less plausible than an immortal breed of human who is sealed within a steel egg during the day, can control vehicles with his mind, and subsists off a synthetic gel?
