Isn't that practically the real deal of an Community Manager? Lol

Ah was just about to post that, and you beat me to it ! Not really CCP Falcon's fault, he gets orders from the Man.

Falcon does indeed get all his talking points on this issue from upper management.
He is clearly a middleman on this particular topic.

So why not have one of the c-suite guys in CCP actually answer these questions as opposed to Falcon emailing them and waiting for the official response that he then posts?

The teenagers who were into Twilight who were the intended cash cow when this started grew up and moved on.

Sucks for those who lost their jobs.

This is disappointing. Genuinely disappointing. After the video and tools we saw at Fanfest last years, this is a sad moment.

Hopefully it's only a temporary mothballing rather than a full-fledge binning of the dream. I still believe that CCP can make a WoD MMO happen, even if it's not going to happen yet.

In my opinion, focusing on only a single IP is a risky move: all the eggs are back in a single basket now, and I don't think that's sensible for a company that wants to grow. Even if the IP in question is a successful and growing one like EVE, things change, and diversity is a hedge against the unexpected.

It would be nice to know WHY the project had to be shelved, though. Were the challenges technical, artistic, financial? And what can the community do to try and bring our vampires back from the dead?

8+yrs. of work and not a single beta released. And you have to ask why? What invester do you know would commit in those circumstances....

The fact that it spent eight years in development before being shelved is not its own explanation. The fact that A happened does not explain the reason WHY A happened.

My one consistent gripe with CCP is that they don't reach out to the community on projects like this, and don't keep us in the loop enough. Not because I personally find it frustrating, but because I find the rumour-mill and armchair expertise that results deeply, DEEPLY irritating.

People are going to form opinions about these projects anyway: they may as well be informed opinions rather than baseless ones, and when projects run into trouble, maybe the community will be able to come up with the answer that might save the day.

More transparency means more enthusiasm and more crowdsourced ideas. There's a balance to strike, obviously, but I suspect one contributing factor may have been that they were so focussed on bringing us a polished version of the initial concept: pride should have been swallowed, an announcement to the effect of "we've overextended ourselves here... here's our features list. Which are the top five you'd REALLY like to see make it into the first release?"

It's understandable, but I hope it's a lesson that can be learned - a community this big and fanatical is a breeding ground for ideas, and the more we're mined, the less things like this should happen.

Yeah just find someone honest who deals with community professionally from CCP to replace him... Big smile. I'm pretty sure lying forms a main part of his job, don't blame CCP's poor handling of the community on one person, because that is just unfair.

So with WoD down, and Dust with not much longer to go we pin all our hopes on Valkyrie for most of our sub money not being thrown away for the last few years.

EVE is dying, DUST is dying....

I'll believe it when either one of them is actually dead.

I'm going to second the suggestion of porting some of the carbon assets into EVE (mainly clothing). I know it won't all fit, but it'd be nice to see some formal items for avatar portraits. And it'd be a nice compromise and a way to recoup some losses (possibly). If they'd started any work on hunters or technocracy or any of the other high-tech cyberpunk factions of WoD, those assets could probably just be applied directly over into Eve.

Well, I haven't posted much in the last couple of years but I felt a need to chime in my 2 cents regarding this information.

It's been my firm opinion that Eve as a game suffered over the last 2 to 3 years due to the fact that you absolutely insisted on forcing the Walking-Avatar system and thus "Walking in Stations" and its prototype components on Eve as a launch bed to test your tech in preparation for the WoD MMO and then Dust514. While it is true, you delivered a very pretty and high quality component to Eve which made our Avatars more self-insert, you outright derailed other paths of development in order to do so.

I understand that you made the decisions you made as a company with a greater plan in mind, but I hope you realize now the mistakes you made in the past and the fact people who urged you to reconsider your stances on these things might have had valid points.

Eve suffered for a large period of time- to the point where it changed my stance on CCP as a company from "I will support them with my money, unquestionably" to "Sorry, I'm done, I'm out", and it has now been a sacrifice for nothing with this news. Dust514 to the best of the knowledge I can gleam has been a complete non-event, and now WoD is canceled outright.

I'm sorry, CCP, but my faith in you continues to falter.

Laying claim to Out of Pod Experience since 2007, plain and simple. Keep the trash out of Out Of Pod Experience, If it's EVE Related or deserves a Lock, it does not belong here.

Bummer. WoD is an interesting world.

Hope those guys bounce back. Would have loved to see another CCP MMO. I still hate DUST, but I'll admit it's come a long way from beta.

It doesn't matter. You gotta find a few reasons to play DUST before PlanetSide 2. And it's a very hard task. I'd even say impossible.

Is there a chance we can see how far WoD had come? I remember seeing a video from FF and the part showing WoD was cut. It'd be nice to see what CCP Atlanta had accomplished.

Is there the chance of a non MMO game coming out of this? I still play Bloodlines (on my non windows 7 PC as I cant get it to work for ****) and that game is years old.

They could be hired by CiG. They seem to be hiring everyone else in development lol

And, isn't sanity really just a one-trick pony anyway? I mean all you get is one trick, rational thinking, but when you're good and crazy, oooh, oooh, oooh, the sky is the limit.

WoD and White Wolf in general predated Twilight you know. By a decade I think

Thought I might try an help

Also; less than surprising that they pulled the plug if anything that was in that newsletter was serious about what they were planning with that game, THEN they announced the permadeath plan lol

Sorry to the Atlanta guys but yeah, it was destined to die
