How long does it take for +5 implants to pay off over +4s?

+5s give you faster training but the cybernetics V has a big training time before you qualify for them. How long does it take before the implants make up for the deficit?

Other answer:

Cybernetics 5 has a bunch of other uses. So immediate.

(mindlinks, high level hardwirings, etc)

+5s are expensive and can be destroyed for a little gain. But you can buy them whenever you want.

A remap is free for a big boost and can't be destroyed. But are limited in how many times you can use them.

Something to think about.

The difference is 90 SP per hour per +1 to both the primary and secondary attributes.

I consider anything over 2000 SP/hour as being acceptable, and I try to minimize training anything below that. However, it doesn't prevent me from training anything.

Most of the implants that require Cybernetics 5 require one of two things - either very good player skills (to protect your pod after a ship loss), or a large investment in Leadership skills, or both.

There'll come a time when you should consider these options, but you won't be posting in New Citizens Q&A then.

Don't train Cyber V for stat implants, only train it if there are other, immediately useful implants you want which require it.

To answer the original question, it takes almost 10 months for the train from cybernetics 4 to 5 to be made up by using +5's over +4's, assuming you always train skills for which you have +5s installed. After that, +5's net you less than 800k extra skill points per year over +4s. That's less than a 5% improvement.

Like others have said, don't train Cyber 5 just for +5's. Train it only when you are ready to use other implants that require it.

The only real reason the train Cyber 5 is to plug in those sexy Slave Implants.
