What would be your reaction if the entirety of EVE 2.0 was done in the same style as valkyrie?
That is, first person actual hiding and weapons lines, actual newtonian physics...
And then the Dust code was used for instation fun

I'd buy it for many many dollars.

Wouldn't play it.

I actually never liked the concept of chasing a few pixels small target with a caret until my eyes bleed. And all "first person" space shooters have that exact combat mechanic.

They're going to leave this EVE behind. It won't become Valk in the future. Valk will just supercede it. To tie this into my last post in the anonymity thread, this may be a real opportunity for battles without all the bullshit that EVE brings with it.

If Elite Dangerous is good, it will destroy the concept of both EvE and Valkyrie for me.

Otherwise, Ill still be here, but Ill never touch Valkyrie anyway

I used to love space shooters (starting with this one) and i've played all the Wing Commander games as well as others. Used to dream of being an X-wing or Viper pilot lol.

Now? The concept just doesn't interest me that much and it's EVE;s fault. I am a Starship CAPTAIN now, not some expendable spacefighter stick jockey/scrub lol.

Why are there no BattleMechs in DUST?

I want to drive an Amarr FLS-9K Flashman

The idea is cool, but part of what i like about eve is that it is not "twitch" based nor die roll based. Everything in Eve is mathematical and there is almost no computer generated randomness in it.

The big problem i see with eve being twitch based like the OP though is that the larger the ship, the less skill needed to fly it. i mean you would just jump in and shoot which is great for current Eve, but it would be so dull in a twitch system.

As would I. I don't mind EVE as it is, but I would definitely support a product that has Valkyrie's combat and EVE's depth.

Apparently mechs are supposed to make an appearance in DUST in the future.

I imagine that for larger ships you could simply push a key to jump to gunner view and manually fire on other ships, then jump back to make course corrections and such while the guns fire normally.

For my part, once the eye candy dazzle wears off I would grow bored quickly if the game play was simply Full Throttle, Lock target, Fire.

Ideally they will couple the amazing graphics with a relatively complex combat system, where personal skills will strongly affect the outcome. Much like the power balancing act they had in Xwing and Tie Fighter... you had to put your available power to the best use for that particular combat in addition to skillful maneuvering and weapons choice.

Now THAT would be amazing, immerse, and a perfect compliment to EVE if there is a direct tie in to it.

We all know that the players want to be able to fly fighters launched from player cap ships and interact in real time in EVE battles.

Many of us also want to be able to do ground attack in DUST (although that is unlikely).

We all also recognize that the technical difficulties of doing either are monumental, so we'll wait and see what CCP can come up with... but we hope there will be more to it than a simply fly and shoot twitch game.

Flashman is fun sure.

But it overheats. I'd shoot it with my Minmatar Jagermech (all Autocannons, ALL the time) and plink it to death Big smile .Also, thank you for the excuse to visit Sarna.net again lol.

I don't know about newtonian physics.. what I've seen of valkyrie so far looked like the fighters behave similar to airplanes in air despite being in space.
Having actual newtonian physics in space would provide additional challenge in maneuvering, but if you had to do it purely manually I think it'd end up in lots of frustration for players.
And if you have flight help systems you can just as well press "orbit" and "approach".

Having turret shots and missiles not go through structures and other ships unhindered, but hitting the obstacle instead (or for missiles, maybe having to fly around it), now that would be nice I think.

First person: I can't imagine how that's supposed to work in Eve with direction of movement and weapons fire so completely separate, with a multitude of different offensive/defensive modules to be activated on possibly multiple targets...
With larger ships being kinda slow and not very agile it wouldn't be that much fun either, I guess.

Actually.. isn't EVE first person already? I'm looking at my tactical display showing my spaceship and environment, giving orders how to move, where to aim, etc.
Or, since it's about pod pilots, what we players see on the screen is a poor representation of what the pod pilot experiences as more direct data input.
It's as close to first person as possible Blink
