I just seen this myself. Makes me wonder if you're going to have to use Facebook to access it, and how much advertising spam you will have to endure to use Oculus.

You can pretty much guarantee it. Advertising is one of their main revenue sources.

Good luck to CCP convincing people EVE Valkyrie with Oculus won't translate user data to advertisers and NSA.

Nice technology, but if I have to endure just one advertisment...I'll pass.

From the Endgadget article at the bottom.

Update: We're on the call now, and Mark Zuckerberg is already pointing out Facebook's acquisition of Instagram as an example of how the company is getting experience buying properties and allowing them to continue to operate independently. Zuckerberg called out virtual reality as one of the computing platforms of the future -- following desktops and mobile -- and yes, talked about building Facebook's advertising into it. Specifically, he talked about the potential of a virtual communication network, buying virtual goods, and down the line, advertising.

Sony aren't much better, but they are the lesser of two evils I suppose.

Looks like ccp has backed the wrong horse again.

Oh boy! Now I can finally live out my fantasy of planting my virtual farm in Farmville VR! Can one of you help out, I need baby bottles and some fertilizer forks.

You, too, can be a Solid Gold dancer.

It should probably be noted:

Facebook didn't make Farmville. They just provided a framework for publishing it.

/me dons tinfoil hat

Perhaps CCP knew this was coming and that's what the 20 million dollar asset write off was, seeing as they're Zuckerberg's B**** now.

/removes tinfoil hat

Seriously though, Valkyrie still has a fighting chance if Facebook integration is optional, because if there's anything that makes me hate a product more than being bombarded with adverts for it, it's having to spam my friends with said adverts myself.

Update (23:11 GMT): One of the first responses to this news from the game development community comes from Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson, who stated on Twitter that "We were in talks about maybe bringing a version of Minecraft to Oculus. I just cancelled that deal. Facebook creeps me out."

You know this deal is probably a bad thing when developers back away...
