Possible fix for the Electronic Attack Ships

A while back there was an idea to give the assault ships a 15% bonus to afterburner speed per level. This was a disaster because assault ships actually do a significant amount of damage, and a 75% bonus to afterburner speed made them unkillable pwn machines.

However, what if you gave this bonus to the electronic attack ships? they dont do a lot of damage, and they do have an issue in the survivability department.

This would answer the question of why would I bring one of these ships when I could bring their large recon brother, because they would be, in some cases, more survivable, and better able to dictate range.

This would give the unmodified Hyena (the fastest EAS) with a faction AB a top speed of 1765 m/s and an overloaded speed of 2433 m/s, quite a bit slower than the interceptors, but still have enough speed to evade most guns including 425s on a hurricane with tracking speed ammo.

They would provide range dictation and damage evasion at the cost of EHP damage and extra slots.

The only problem I see is that it may make the sentinel a bit OP, but im not sure.

Thoughts?

One of many interesting ideas. But they honestly need a whole rework. The hyena has an old interceptor bonus and MWD capacitor bonus. The kitsune has a shorter lock range then the griffin it is based on. All of the EAF have ridiculous signature sizes. They need mote then a gimmick role bonus tossed on them.

Ewar frigates need several things to make them amazing;

1) sig radii that match their size

2) either better range (for some anyway) or better/stronger capability to shut the enemy down

3) speed of some sort.

perhaps something that ALL t2 frigs and dessies need is a fourth bonus, since they currently get only three bonuses (two ship weight and one specialty) compared to the cruiser+ crowd getting four bonuses (two ship weight and two specialty).

what you described is not making EAS amazing, it would make them overpowered. if they had all of what you described, there would be no reason for combat recons . . . I think a slight nudge in the right direction is all they need, anyway CCP has a history of over buffing or over nerfing things too much anyway

Being one of the first to ridicule the AF buff idea (knew it was broken even prior to testing on SiSi *pat self on back*), I can actually see it working for the EAS.

They need higher speed and lower signatures, preferably a combination. What an AB bonus would do is put everything into the speed bag which works just as well .. but .. it also pigeon holes them into using a specific prop mod which is not so good.
To avoid that the bonus could be split between the drives; 10% speed increase for AB and sig reduction for MWDs (less than ceptors naturally) .. also serves to force a choice when fitting as dual-prop would be godly but at the cost of the added mass and fitting limitations.

Note: Ten percent is more than enough to solve the problem. More than that and they get dangerously close to OP'ness just as the AFs did.

At the end of the day, I'll support anything that gives them a chance to do their thing without having to contend with BC size signature (MWD bloom for the loss Sad)
