A simple solution to the painted ship markt problem.

One of the problems CCP is having in regards to the ship skins is having to add a new registry to the market for every painted ship, and that would really inflate the search results and generally cause problems.

So why not just make the repaint like rigs? You have to repackage the ship to sell it, but when you repackage it the paint job gets removed, like rigs. That way, it deals with the market problem but still allows painted ships to be sold on contract.

Thoughts?

Eh, i figured it might have been, but there was always the chance it wasn't. I looked around a bit and didn't see anything, so I decided to post.

If a moderator wants to delete this, go ahead I guess

I wouldn't want it to take up a rig slot, but if they added a new fitting slot just for cosmetics then that would be pretty cool.

DEV BLOG: Ship Painting Pilot Program

Reading DEV Blogs can be very informative.

The problem is the way the game is currently coded (see: they have to completely revise how things work from the back-end). Every new texture or color scheme MUST be a wholly unique ship with its own unique entry.

The DEVs just want to see (with this pilot program) if there is actual demand for ship painting or if it is just a small sub-set of players who are yelling loudly for it.

Yes, giving every ship in the game an extra rig is a MUCH easier way than the way they jury rigged it now.

When the Crucifier Hull got changed they told us it would take serious recoding and modifications on the software to make the little side thingies actually move.

And last patch we got a Tristan that does exactly this once she enters warp.

So I personaly would not give to much on any answers regarding the code of eve.

97% of girls would die if Justin Bieber were about to jump off a cliff. Post this in your sig if you`re part of the 3% yelling,

"DO A BARREL ROLL!"

Consider maybe that they actually have done that back end recoding in the mean time? Since they did the Bastion project in there also.

Give the man a cookie !
it could go next to the subsystem slots (call it the 'colour palette plate'), and just be a simple pattern of 'basecolour=00ff00, overcolour1=3100ae, etc' which when you show info on it comes as
'base colour: bright blue patch
over colour 1: funny pink/purple
etc
might need a bit of fitting screen rejig and in order to store the colours in these 'colour palette plates' it needs to be unpackaged, when packaged it loses it's colours, and shows 'default for the ship hull'
genius!

For posting an idea into F&I: come up with idea, try and think how people could abuse this, try to fix your idea - loop the process until you can't see how it could be abused, then post to the forums to let us figure out how to abuse it..... If your idea can be abused, it WILL be.
