MISSION: Passing the Isk ISSUE: Colliable objects blocking navigation

Gallente version of Passing the ISK Mining mission from Jerlesel, ship is Retriever.

Goal is to mine asteroid, when I come out of warp there is a big space station in between my ship and the asteroid. Only other approachable object in the area is a beacon, so no approaching third objects to manuever around the station.

Any attempt to approach the asteroid results in getting "caught" in the space station (ship cannot accelerate, and, occasionally, when attempting to warp out, gets stuck in warp, unable to cancel warp drive but not moving).

By approaching for a few minutes I can slowly get close enough to mine the ore, but then I have to wobble back out.

Station is targettable, but drones ignore orders to engage target (staying idle in space).

What am I missing here, and how can I navigate better in this situation?

What do you mean by "fly your ship by hand"?

From what I understand, flying in space in Eve involves approaching, orbitting, or keeping a set distance from different objects in space.

My issue is that, in the deadspace area in this mission, the space station is between the warp in point and the goal, and there are not enough objects at a perpendicular or oblique angle to allow me to get to the asteroid without getting stuck in the space station's object.
