Drone Faction Ships

Was looking thru deviantart and thought a few of these ships would be cool as far as making a new pirate faction line up, like rogue or sleeper drones repurposed by capsuleers for capsuleers. Lore could go like "after salvaging and re-creating thousands of rogue/sleeper drones, a few ingenious capuleers found a way to mesh the rogue/sleeper technology with their own, jovian pod technology" leading to a new lineup of ships. Drones could open wormholes and do incursions with the Samalah carrier (the first link) as the "mothership spawn" needed to kill off the incursion, dropping blueprints.

I know this is really soon after the SoE lineup just got introduced, but its an idea for a much later date, and Incursions need a new faction to be introduced IMHO

These ships look cool to say the least, but fitting them into Eve? That's the hardest part. Gotta make sure they don't step on the toes of other ships already in existence (and still being rebalanced). If these do get intorduced properly, I predict they will have very niche roles.

+1 for a Rogue Drone Faction lineup. Drones only, though. Lol

could be an amarr/gallente skill as the two who have the best droneboats, tho idk what weapon system they would use. And yea, rogue drone faction drones would be pretty badass. shields and hybrids would be caldari, shields and lazers would be sansha. Only mix-up that I can think of that hasn't been done is caldari/minmatar, tho i dont know how that would fit into the lore of drones.

Armor/projectile?

Nothing but drones for weapons. Drones, drones and more drones. A hull/armor-based drone ship might be kind of neat.

drones as only damage dealer? they should have something like the guardian-vexor then that has a drone bandwidth extender rather than a gun in the highs, that allow for +1 drone per, and all have a base large number of drones to be fielded. so a cruiser that can field 5 medium drones with 4-5 high slots can field 5+4 or 5+5 drones, for a total of 9-10 drones.

or the drone ships field special, larger drones. For instance, frigates field regular light or medium drones, cruiser will field frigate-sized drones, battleship will field cruiser-sized drones. or the ability for carriers to field battleship-sized drones would be awesome.

a module called the infestor can be used to target enemy ships and control their drones as long as it is in range of the ship?

Yes, for a completely drone-based setup that could work.

My previous idea on this:

I see the drone ships as a needle like central armoured hull with engine nacelles places evenly around the rear (number dependant on size of hull)

The foreard areas would be studded with locking points and power points. Drone modules would attach on these points depending on loadout so each flying vessel would look different. Example of how I see this could work:

Frigate class combat hull:

Central hull with low cap and cpu, armour resists comparable to other frigates. 3 low slots that can hold small drones. These are either fixed drones (armour repair drone with average repair hp per cycle) or mobile drones ( armour rep drone that can rep local or launch and remote rep, both at lower rate than the fixed drone.

3 high slots with the same principle, docked gun/missile drones get dmg buffs but undocked they can engage at distance/ drone assist others.

Dessie hull also uses small drones but with more drone slots, cruisers and BCs use medium, BS use large drones and so on.

Hull cap is low because the drone modules themselves have cap. This should be balenced to not allow gross use of active low/medium fixed mods.

Drone prop mods would be achieved by the attached propulsion drones dragging the hull along as boosters whilst their cap holds out, but also launching drones gives an additional velocity boost like a sabot round, along with an agility increase due to less hull mass.

Basically I'd like to see sentient drones in two forms...the sick puppies that see human as breeding meat sacks, and others who have become 'enlightened', gained true sentience and been horrified by their previous existence. this would give a very polarized set of character possibilites. I could see the enlightened drone clones (yes they put their consciousness into a clone body) being more aligned with Gallente Intake (reborns flocking together) and SoE. The vicious sociopathic drones would probably associate with the general capsuleer population :D

...so basically there are two new races, the enlightened drones that put themselves into a capsuleer body and star wars-like robots who hate all humans, and instead of using normal modules they use specially created drones for basically everything. Its a very creative idea, but I think a lot more work than the developers are willing to do seeing as they have to create an entirely new system based just around drone ships, vs. creating one or two new modules they have to create around 20 or 30, balancing and testing would be a nightmare

To have a new faction you would need an entire range of new ships so i didn't limit my thinking in that respect...whether such an implemenatation is beyond current development resource available however...

Mainly i tried to come up with a ship design yhat would need fairly different tactics and player skills.

The two types of drones are merely a player style choice nothing more.
