Still fairly new to the game and will be passing the 900k skill point cap for the basic alpha clone in the next few hours. While I will be upgrading my clone, if I didn't, how does the game determine which skills I lose? Is it random, most recent, my choice, etc?

The skill with the most SP invested in it is the one hit.

If I were stupid enough to derp on clones, I'd lose SP from Gallente Battleship 5, as it's my only skill with 2.048m SP (8x, capped out).

You'll lose a small percentage the highest trained skill (in terms of skillpoints)... which, depending on the skill, can amount to a few days to weeks of lost time.

In your state OP, it won't be a very painful hit. But when you have more than a few level 5 skills it will hurt (more than a few people I know have lost Battleship level 5... more than once).

You will lose 5% of the difference between current SP and clone limit SP (or up to 1 complete level of a skill).

I have heard that the stupidity tax on SP caps at one half of one level of a skill.

be careful with your clones. I made the mistake one day of death-cloning (suicide to travel somewhere) and forgot to update clone on trip back. Lost minmatar carrier 5. 20 days training down the hole. So, whenever you die, first thing you should do is upgrade clone, or find somewhere you can. It really hurts to lose your best skill like that.

When a skill has been selected, the system deducts the skill points your character has and the amount of skill points your clone saves. It then takes 5% of those skill points away, as long as that amount doesn’t total 50% of your total skill points in that skill.

Level 5 = 256,000 skill points * Skill Rank

Level 5 Loss Limit = 128,000 skill points * Skill Rank

Racial Battleship skills are rank 6 (limit = 768,000), Carriers are rank 14 (limit = 1,792,000), and Titans are rank 16 (limit = 2,048,000). Super-cap pilots with outdated clones isn't uncommon.
