About the dangers of Ghost Sites

I use to spend some time with scanning for annomalys. Sometimes I find some of the recently established Ghost Sites (I only work in HighSec, so I'm speaking of "Lesser (...) Covert Research Facilitys). Whenever I try to encounter the sites I'm quickly interrupted by hostile ships, so if i don't warp out I'm killed pretty fast.

After a few tries I decided to stay cloaked for a while as soon as the ships arrive.
They warped in, I cloaked my Heron.....BOOM - "CAPSULE EJECTED"....wtf? They didn't even target me. Consulting my combat-log I saw I was killed by the lootabe research lab. I guess my was out of time with my hacking-attempt.
Ok next time I will simply wait until they warp in, then cloak my (next) Heron and wait until they warp out. I'll keep my fingers off the stuff, so it can't explode
Next site: I warped in, cloaked my new Heron, approached a lab with 45 m/s (I use a t1 device), the ships warped in, I was cloaked, I always wondered how rich i might get when I loot the labs if only these ships would warp out. I arrived at one of the labs, still cloaked, doing nothing.....BOOM - "CAPSULE EJECTED"....Shocked !!!
Of course I was killed by the lab again, no idea how, but i was.

So my question: what exists inside a ghost site that can kill me?
Obviously the hostile ships and the labs so far, even if not targetet, approaching them seems to be enough to start a nice firework.
Is there anything else? And, by the way, will the ships finally warp out if i stay cloaked long enough without getting killed by guns, labs, asteroids, space flies, radiation, misfortune or devils work?

They shoot and blow up the hubs...when the hubs explode so does your heron... Use a cruiser and you'll survive the hisec one with a little tank...

Sod it, better idea train for a Stratios...

Quoted from Doc Fury: "Concerned citizens: Doc seldom plays EVE on the weekends during spring and summer, so you will always be on your own for a couple days a week. Doc spends that time collecting kittens for the on-going sacrifices, engaging in reckless outdoor activities, and speaking in the 3rd person."

If you are going to do ghost sites, knowing the mechanics might help.

What you are suggesting as your next tactic, won't work.

Doing ghost sites in a Heron is a waste of your time and a waste of perfectly good loot for someone else who does know how to run them properly.

I have done a few of the highsec ones in a Heron. There always seems to be one container that has more in it than the other 3 combined, so I just take that one and leave before the fireworks start.

GHOST SITES.

once a ship enters a ghost site and deckloaks, a timer starts.

the ship has a random amount of time, typically 30 seconds - 2 minutes, before the timer runs out.

When timer runs out, NPC guards warp in and start shooting the ship. Ghost site facilities self-destruct, and inflict damage on the ship.

So, a ship has a limited, random amount of time in which to hack and loot the cans. Typically, no more then 2 cans can be hacked before timer runs out.

As a bonus, if a ship fails a hack, the ghost-site self-destructs immediately.

Typically, a ghost site will have 3 cans with trash, and 1 can with good loot / blueprint.

So, warp-in, burn to nearest can, hack it, loot it, pray that you have enough time left to hack the second can before guards arrive and everything explodes.

That is all.

No, do a quick cargo scan to find the good one. Don't waste any time on "trash."

Pretty much that.

I did some experiments and observed that the higher the security status of the system, the faster the response.

Be advised also that myself and a few others (see the IGS forum) have found that armor buffer with high resist is better then trying outright for just highest resists. I lost an Astero to thinking that high resists were the ticket but everything else I tried with a armor buffer plus some explosion resist survives.

Yes buffer tank is best tank for the sites. I don't do them anymore bit of a waste of time, but I used to scan, hack and then tank easy as pie.

Aside from the timer if the ships that warped in were player ships they may have failed a hack attempt.

You can still do ghost sites with a frigate. Just cargo scan and get the most valuable one and warp out.
