So, will summer see multiplayer station environments?

I like the idea of Wis, but was disheartened that CCP fumbled it so badly with Incarna. Crucible is looking great, and should fix most of the longtime gripes i've had with EVE, but now that Fis has (finally) gotten some sweet, sweet lovin, CQ looks even more tacked on and sloppy. Will we be getting the ACTUAL Incarna in summer?

Well lets hope that if we keep banging on about it, they will listen and do it.
Aside from the fact that it would be awesome, I believe that it will open Eve up to more gamers - if done well. New players are the lfe blood of any MMO.
And of course there are dozens of real cool ideas that could be built in WiS, along with its integration into Dust.

Of course. People are always complaining about how WiS and Dust will take dev time away from FiS, but they don't realize that both function to augment it, not subtract from it.

It's on hold until they find a deeper meaning to it.

Also it means adding about 200k USD worth of new servers to support multiplayer environments in stations.

I mean imagine how crowded jita alone would be.

Why Can't I have a picture signature.

Also please support graphical immersion, bring back the art that brought people to EvE online originaly.

I wouldnt mind a non functional hub getting added first.

Chances are though they're working on dust 514 intergration for the summer.

You are in for massive dissapointment.

WiS is not canned. Its backburnered and its assests and the sort will continue be in development and added when its sensible time table for its creation. But basically it may probably never take forfront as a feature in eve again. IE as the center point of an expansion.

Lets clarify.

3 years ago WiS was on the road map. It has never come to pass and been taken off the road map.

Just putting it in perspective.

OK, lets think about "backburnered" by way of an example .....

Ford spend 2011 developing a "new" V8 with revolutionary carburetor technology. In November, they realise they don't have the budget to finish it or a car to put it in. They lay off all the development staff and issue a press release saying we can expect the new engine "in 3 years or so". Meanwhile, Ferrari are working on a revolutionary fuel injected V12 ceramic engine that develops about 50% more power and have it slated for testing in an F1 chassis this year and a sexy new road car, priced at less than a new Mustang, next year.

Do you really think that old Ford V8 is ever going o see the light of day ?

Hope not. No one needs that. Well at least most of the players don't need that.
When Captain's thing came out I was happy so see it. I walked at my quarters for like 5 mins and now I never use it.

So I guess it's like 3-5% of EvE population liked it.
Few days ago there was a chat in my Corp about that. It's like no one uses it.

As they admitted during Fanfest, Carbon is a flaming pile of dog s***. There is no net code, the engine can not render more than a handful of characters in a scene and its horribly optimized. Remember this is the pride and glory of CCP, what pretty much their entire company has been working on for 4 years.

Would like to see multi-player WiS, it will not happen anytime reasonably soon. Maybe if they license a real engine.

I wouldn't mind a minor multiplayer space, but there are still a ton of things on the spaceship side of EVE that need to be fixed and fleshed out. I want Apocrypha 2.0. Walking in stations can come later when there's an actual plan for it that contains meaningful gameplay.

CARBON is a framework consisting of more than just the ambulation side of it the framework as a whole works fine and you're using it daily :)

So don't bash the framework thats unrelated when you're bashing the ambulation engine :)

Keep an eye on the test server. When (IF) the Incarna engine is able to handle more than one avatar on screen, then will be the time to start discussing possible incarna content.

IIRC CCP have committed to a FiS-focused summer expansion. Crucible fixes a large number of minor issues, but there's still a years-long backlog of development debt to major elements of the existing spaceships game; Drone space, W-space, Industry/Mining, Faction Warfare, 0.0 Sovereignty, Low Sec, PvE. And then of course Incarna.

Ideally what I'd like to see would be an alternating system of expansions:

Summer expansion: Introduces new gameplay element, plus some "little things" fixes

Winter expansion: Iterates on the newly introduced gameplay element after 6 months of "live fire testing", and iterates on a long-neglected element from the above list, plus some "little things" fixes.

For all they mistakes that have been made, CCP have done two things unambiguously right: firstly, they've massively improved server performance, so that TQ can actually support these gameplay elements. Secondly, they've (as of tomorrow) fixed a huge number of minor issues, so that the day-to-day "quality of life" of the average EVE player is significantly better. These two projects are a valuable long-term investment in the future of the game.

Getting Incarna up and working would be a similarly long-term investment, but it has to compete for resources with multiple other longstanding issues that may simply have a better payback in invested resources. I hope and assume that CCP will continue to develop the engine, albeit with a smaller, more focused, better managed team. When the engine gets past its current alpha testing status, I will be as happy as anyone to join in the discussion about what to do with it. Until that time, however, any debate is moot.
