Two reasons why the Collectors edition probably didn't sell
1. price. Sure it has some nice swag in it, but they might have put a bit too much in the box and ended up driving the cost up way too much for most people.
2. Probably just as if not more important, you're really just getting the box, an EvE account is five dollars or five euros on top of the first month's subscription. Yes, the collector's edition does come with 2 months, so that's $35 already paid for, but you still aren't really buying a game unlike pretty much every other collectors edition out there.

Compare that to most other games where the collectors edition is $70-90 with $50-60 being the game itself.

SO what time was it in Australia when it was announced this was for sale there?
CCP still needs to make more units, though. Pretty sad to see you guys are flying 200 books to australia and most of them are probably going to be flying right back out.

It was posted at 5pm Australian time, 1 am EST / 6 am GMT, to favor Oceania.

Wish I had known about this in time to get a limited edition.

Will there be a second run of the limited edition set or is this final? 1,400 seems a bit low.

No second runs, that would negate the limited part. THat said, Dark Horse comics will be selling these at their booths during conventions such as Comic Con. But the EVE Store is out, and I haven't heard from IKON, but their 200 units are probably selling fast.

How was it decided to print 1,400? I want to throw my money at this, but it's not there to be thrown at.

A finger was subjected to a small quantity of saliva and then suspended vertically in the air.

No, it was actually a conversation between CCP and Dark Horse, based on prior works and their limited editions they had released on other titles and franchises. In retrospect, the number was too low, but due to the nature of limited editions, we will not be releasing more of this one, that would negate the value attributed to it for the people that managed to get a copy.

There is always the standard edition, it has all the pictures and the text:

You can find it here at Things From Another World.

If you make another 1000 books it will still be a limited edition.
it would still only be available to less than a percent of the population.

The Eve Second Decade book was the main reason why I bought the CE. I don't know if I would have spent $150 for the book alone, but would for the Source LE. I also love the older artbook that was square and came in a slipcase. The new book should be fantastic if it is of the same quality as Darkhorse's Bioware artbooks.

Meanwhile...

there was an announcement in the news that this Australian retailer would now accept pre-orders. I was able to place an order at popcultcha yesterday almost 24h after the announcement (hope they are not accepting more than they will get).
So, if you are really interested - be quick.
The shipping from Australia is somewhat expensive though.

Personally, I am convinced that this whole thing is a sinister Goonswarm plot (I call it the Limited Issue Book Acquisition Cartel or LIBAC) and I expect all the Limited Issues to be on Ebay soon selling for the triple normal price... :-D

Other than the shipping, why is it $30 more expensive in AUS?

Here's to hoping they aren't accepting more pre-orders than they're getting, but I find it hard to believe my pre-order today is still valid.

Ah, well... we'll see.

Here's hoping they're smarter than that, (or someone from CCP reaches out to them and makes sure they're not accepting lots of pre-orders they can't fill) ... that would certainly be a fitting coda to this whole incident.

... of course CCP/DarkHorse sending lots of books to AU, only to have them shipped back out again to the rest of the world is also a fitting end, so here's hoping either way. :)

Sorry, after you put the collectors set on sale less than a month after releasing it I'm not pre-ordering anything from you anymore.
