I'm currently belt ratting in null sec to earn some ISK. I'm flying a T1 battleship with mostly T1 fittings. I'm a fairly low skilled char I have about 4m skill points.

I would like to move up to clearing anoms as I've heard these are more profitable but having jumped out to a few to take a look I'm 99% sure I'll get blown up in my current set up if I stick around.

So my first question is what ship should I be aiming to fly in order to be able to tackle these, firstly with a group and with a mind to being able to clear them solo.

I'm thinking I'll need a marauder with T2 fittings to solo them. But that is just a guess, could be overkill or could be to weak I have no idea. I would need another 90 days training time just to get into that ship alone tho so hopefully there is a better option with lower skill requirements.

It will also take me forever to farm up enough ISK for a ship like that. I make about 10m ISK an hour belt ratting, with my current set up it takes me about 15 minutes to take down 3 battleships at a belt that are worth about 1m each.

My second question is what is the best way to farm ISK in null sec. I can't run missions in high sec because my alliance is always at war plus I like being in null sec and don't want to have to constantly jump between the two.

I would rather avoid mining because it's very tedious and training the skill I'd need to do it well would take time away from the skills needed for things I actually want to be doing. But if it's possible to get into a set up quickly that will make considerably more than belt ratting then I'd be open to doing that.

As a quick fix

(a) remove the large shield extender and replace it with a shield boost amplifier II - will be more efficient for longer encounters.

(b) I would downgrade the prop mod to an AB or remove it. that gives you a free midslot to consider for an applied damage mod, and it will remove the MWD penalty to your capacitor.

If a dread gurista spawns, you can bm it and warp away and com back to fetch the loot. I wouldn't bother salvaging or looting from a T1 battleship during combat. BM a wreck and come back with a noctis.

(c) I would rig the ship if its not rigged. Begin with cap stability because you are learning encounters. If you can fix your CPU problems with a rig (or by removing the MWD), then do so to get rid of the cpu module, and replace it with a tracking enhancer.

In my experience gurista hubs are the most consistent (max 4 BS), gurista ports are also quite ok, but the "alternate" version of the port has quite a nasty spawn (if it spawns up with "dire" gurista frigates at the start, you know the third wave will be hard).

Warp in at 50 or 70, and shoot the frigates first generally, at long range where your guns can track them. If you don't want to learn the triggers, shoot all bar 1 cruiser, all bar 1 BC, and then shoot the battleships, then shoot the cruiser, then shoot the BC, 99% the trigger will be one of the last 3. (actually 0 is 50 on a hub from memory, and you don't have to worry about triggers too much).

One difficulty with the pest is that it has an inflexible dronebay, as if you are fighting at 50 or 70 kms, you might want a couple of sentries (wardens) and some emergency light drones to clear any frigates that got close, and not bring the medium drones at all.

You might even consider "downgrading" to a Typhoon.

7 high slots, 6 turret/launcher hardpoints, vs. 8 high slots, 2 of wich you aren´t using anyway.
5 mid slots, same as the Tempest.
7 Low slots, 1 more than the Tempest, gives you more options regarding tanking, dam mods etc. etc.

One of the advantages of using a Typhoon is it´s drone bay, all of a sudden you have the option of using sentry drones.

That might compensate for the fact that the Typhoon has no bonuses to turrets.
No math on it though......

The MJD is nothing more than a "get out of jail free card" for when a neutral comes into system while an npc frig is warp disrupting you (NPCs don't "scram" like player scrams do, npc 'scrams' never turn off your ability to mjd or mwd). Even with not great skills it tanks enough for everything below forlorn hubs (forsaken hubs are not prob for this thing). Cloak is optional, it's just that we used to rat in a system with no station or corp POS so if a neutral came in or we wanted to go AFK we'd warp to a safe spot and cloak up. (we eventually did get a POS and took our cloaks off)

Tempest isn't the best ratting ship, IMO cruise missile Typhoon and Autocannon Maelstrom are way better.

Yep so constructive. Since i know for a fact they have an entire forum section devoted to what to train to effectively make isk etc. The CFC doesnt leave information like that out. Its all there for line members to utilize.

Cheers for the advice, I'm pretty new to the corp/alliance. I've been mostly chatting to the corp and staying away from alliance stuff because I don't want bother anybody while I get used to the game. I really should utilise the info thats already in the forums tho, not sure why I didn't think of having a look there before here.

I hate asking questions about this type of thing in chat or ts because people just start throwing ISK at me. Which is great and really kind of them but it also makes me kind of uncomfortable becauseI'm not looking for hand outs, just information. I'm trying to get myself into a situation where I have a decent enough ISK farming set up that I can confidently go get ships blown up in PVP and know that worst case scenario it won't take me that long to farm it back up again.
