The Depot structure will let individual players build and defend their own little homes in space, complete with item storage and a ship fitting service. Players currently sometimes anchor secure containers in deep safespots or asteroid belts to store loot or ore, and the Depot will likely replace them in this role. Depending on its capacity and how quickly it can be set up, it could be a huge boost for solo highsec miners who normally ninja-mine or mine into jettisoned containers. If you're planning to use Depots in highsec, remember that anyone can attack them and they'll only get a suspect flag.

The information released so far suggests that the Depot will have a reinforced timer and period of invulnerability when attacked just like a starbase, but that you'll be able to retrieve the contents while it's reinforced. This deployable was first suggested by developers years ago as part of the Smallholdings concept, and now that we have one part of that plan, it's reasonable to assume the rest will follow. We'll probably get new modules over time to add onto our depots, extending them with manufacturing arrays, research labs, refineries and other services currently limited to stations and starbases. In the future, industrial activity carried out in the Depot could end up being faster or more efficient than in a standard station in order to offset the risk of having your Depot destroyed.

That is a POS.


You need to buy a control tower drop it at a moon (in high-sec you need standings too).
Then you anchor stuff to it.

Costs you between 100 and 500 mil / month in fuels to keep running (depending on size etc).
And you need to be in player corp which means people can wardec you and shoot it.
If you do it in low-sec / null-sec, there is capitals to be aware of


Basically, a POS is NOT new player friendly and specially not solo new player friendly.

Extra info -

○ Faction POS cost more to buy but take noticably less fuel. If you plan to run the starbase for a long time it is worth it.

○ If you plan to use it as a perminent home base, consider finding a quiet C1 / C2 wormhole with a hisec static as no standings are required to set it up. Also in a c1 it is considerably more difficult to destroy it due to mass limitations on the hole.

○ If you build it in hisec and get wardecced, use the 24hr gap between the dec and start of combat to take down your POS or at least fill it with hardeners and ECM.

The Mobile Depot is the item that article is referring to... The picture in the article is of a POS module because when that article was written the module had not yet been added to the game.

Your source is not an official CCP site. The article was not written by a CCP dev.

Feel free to write your own article on your hopes and dreams, and add your own pictures too.

I fail to see where Tau could possibly have done anything offensive here. He was quick and blunt about the fact that the information you're going nuts about was from a bad source and the things you're looking for doesn't actually exist.

The mobile depot you have in game is pretty much it as far as that article is concerned.

Anything more and you'll need a POS with standings and fuel and a lot more money.

Miichael Epic, I apologize that you took my previous post as some sort of attack; that was never my intention, If you hang around these forums more, especially this one, you will see that I try to be one of the helpful good guys.

My actual intent was threefold:

1. Answer your question.

2. Point out that there is a lot of stuff on the Internet about EVE, and you really can't trust any of it unless it is from an official source [and even then it can be outdated].

3. To not dissuade you from writing your own blog, or making suggestions [there is even a forum dedicated to New Ideas].

I apologize that my execution was poor, and I completely missed the mark.

I hope this incident doesn't discourage you from posting questions or ideas, and for what it is worth, I always tell people that they are free to EVE-mail me too if they'd rather not post.

Thank you for your explanation.....your sentence "Feel free to write your own article on your hopes and dreams, and add your own pictures too." was rude and impolite to me which prompted me to respond the way I did. It came across sarcastic and impolite to me...which is both of our faults for you not being more clear in what you were saying and myself for jumping to conclusions.

Thank you for your apology. I also apologize for directly attacking and insulting you the way I did. I hold no grudge against you and hope you'll hold no grudge against me...I'm always happy to make new friends and maybe I'll see you out when I'm mining one day :)
