Fleet Formations Idea

See how chaotic it is in the BR battle? How everyone is aligned in a different direction with very little organization in terms of the arrangements of ships. To me it just looks kind of sloppy and zergy.

My idea is to have implemented some sort of fleet mechanic whereby fleet leaders can broadcast to fleet members particular locations relative to the fleet leaders that when ships would move to said location they would form a sort of formation, say a wedge or maybe a square. Obviously, three dimensional formations could be used. I think this would add to the visual appeal of eve very much, especially in large engagements like BR.

This fleet mechanic could also be integrated with skill training whereby different fleet formation require different skills to use. Moreover, fleet formations could even give bonuses to various stats like shield strength, m/s, dps, etc.

Which completely ruins any kind of a fleet that comprises more than one shiptype. Want your logis orbiting your fleet at 50km out to sig tank incoming damage? Now they lose all thier bonuses! Want your ceptors, dictors and frigates to brawl? Now they're losing their bonuses too! Don't want to spend hours setting up squads? Now everyone loses their bonus!

While it would be a cool addition, it is meaningless so long as my missile/projectile/laser can pass harmlessly through my allies and enemies until it impacts my targeted ship.

Something to consider.

Cloaking is the closest thing to a "Pause Game" button one can get while in space.

Support better localization for the Japanese Community.

Exactly. It would add a secondary level of strategy to fleet engagements.

So you want to accomplish X by adding Z and Y, while the other guy wants to accomplish X by adding A and Z.

Use existing threads, just like all the 'Halp my freighter was ganked' threads.

All the same thing, approached or worded slightly different.


You want fleet formations to be implemented as a skill or something. He wants them to be an 'anchor on' button. The result is the same:

Individual piloting is removed and everyone in the fleet becomes an F1 only monkey. 'Orbit the FC' fleet style is already WAY too close to this.
