Remember the movie Aliens?

Ripley is on board a giant space station which is floating above LV 426.

She boards a drop ship which takes her to the surface of the planet.

Inside the drop ship is a tank like vehicle which doesn't fly but uses wheels.

I like this idea of having ships inside ships, or vehicles inside bigger ships.

Wouldn't it be neat if you had ships in eve like this? Where you could pilot a drop ship, land it on a planet, then jettison a vehicle to explore the surface of the planet?

I have absolutely no idea how this would be implemented or even if this is a good idea but I just like the thought of ships inside ships.

For example in space engineers you are capable of storing ships inside ships using magnets. Pretty cool idea.

Remember Blaster Master for Nintendo? Where your little dude was inside a vehicle but he could also exit and explore on foot? Similar idea.

Anyway, let me know what you think of the concept of ships inside ships and if you can elaborate on how this might be useful in Eve, if at all. Think TROJAN HORSE people!!!!

What if they had it so you had a little pod inside your ship so if you got blown up you could fly across the universe to get another ship, or you could land in station and get out in your ship within a ship, fly to another station and then park your pod in a different ship and then fly that?

I'd play that

Team Avatar made a f****** sweet prototype of some WiS encounters in WH space. CCP shut it down. It was a bummer. You should google it... pretty sure they are still on YouTube somewhere.

I was bummed when I learned that docking my ship in an Orca meant I had to leave my ship. I wanted to dock up and let the Orca pilot ferry me around. Being able to land a Rifter in the maw of a Nidhoggur or Hel would be awesome as well.

Funny you mention this I was just thinking of Battlestar Galactica and how landing would require skill instead of just hitting a DOCK button. You would actually need to use your thrusters to stabilize and land your ship or crash into the hull and possibly damage your mods or even lose your ship if you're really crazy.

Ship inside ship is already in the game. Its called carrier. You have 1mill m3 shippbay in the ship that can carry a good amount of ships. You can drop them into space and leave your carrier behind. Just dont expect the carrier to be around when you come back. Someone wil probably steal it while you are gone. To exsplore the planets, you wil sadly have to play dust.

BTW, you're mixing things up. Smile
That space station (Gateway station) is where Ripley wakes up after a 57 year hyper sleep.
It's a Conestoga-class starship called the Sulaco, transporting colonial marines (whuha!), which orbits LV 426.

I know I'm nitpicking, still...

If I wanted matryoshka ship I'd just buy another game where I could walk inside ship which had another smaller (but functional) ship inside... Oh, wait, I did it already - because I believe that game will be released before EVE will get *any* interesting content.

Exactly this.

Also, exploring planets would mean CCP has to create an entirely new game. (AKA, Dust)

Jint Hikaru - Miner / Salvager / Explorer / SpaceBum In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Aliens...Battlestar Galactica...OP your ideas are what we call received ideas. It's not really creativity when you have to refer to a movie or tv show to explain your thoughts. Not even innovation, since you're not taking a received idea and doing something new with it.
As we know, originality is the goal of the naive. Aim to steal ideas outright then present them in a way so that some nerd can't sink it with one salvo of "Oh just like in...."

WiS / Incarna (at least the promise of it) is the sole reason i started playing EVE Sad
Dont misunderstand now, i quickly fell in love with EVE without WiS too... But imo its like comparing Water to Fine Wine.

On topic: I like your idea OP, i have dreamt those dreams too :) Unfortenatly it seems we have to put our faith in another game than EVE to see this...(like Star Citizen). CCP seems hellbendt on never to do anything more with WiS..

But... im on a vacation from EVE, playing Planetside II and pretending thats the real DUST514 :p

I would just like to point out.

In both instances where Ripley was at LV 426 she was never on a SpaceStation. In the first movie it was Ore Freighter Nostromo and in the second movie it was the Sulaco, a Light Assault Carrier class war ship.

EDIT: I see that was already pointed out. Did not ready further after that since it is just horrifying when people get these things wrong.

In the first one it was the Nostromo. An ore hauling ship.
