Question about PvP abbreviation

I've just found a nice lowsec place to learn PvP in. So far I figured out that the usual manner is to comment "gf" after a fight in consent.

Yesterday I got a "na" and then "gf" which puzzled me. I've tried to google "na" but I didn't get any results that I can match with my case.

Is it: 1. na - like in nah, I don't think so; or 2. na - not available (not likely though); or 3. na - like in some other language (greek?); or something else I must've totally missed Question

Don't worry about it. Always offer a 'gf' after a lowsec fight whether you win or lose. Only butthurt people don't gf. It is highly amusing. Be especially sure to offer a gf when you are deliberately blobbed. It annoys the hell out of them because they are usually looking for tearz.

If someone with more experience (killboard) kills you and you want to know how, you should feel free to just convo them and ask. Lots of lowsec PvPers will happily share fits and maybe even offer your loot. I look forward to seeing you around.

What's interesting is that GF stands for good fight in this game, but it can also be misinterpreted by someone without EVE knowledge as "get (profanity)".

Type gf only when it is safe (ie when your pod is in warp to somewhere you do not expect to be followed to if you lost).

Thanks for the information so far!

I read somewhere that "gf" sometimes is used like girlfriend in the prison-sense. I think it was on a forum called Failheap Challenge, or something like that.

So the "na" doesn't mean anything particual then? Or just something like "nope, not a very good fight but gf anyways mate"?

If fight you talking about was with that firetail maybe it was "nice attitude" if you stood up to the challenge or attacked him first. Your kestrel was fit with full tackle so I guess you weren't really killing rats :)

Thanks for the clarification! I'm usually looking for solo fights, until I get the occasional blob and need to refit ^^

Solo fights are where it's most important to 'gf' :)

Never underestimate what offering a 'GF' - win or lose will get you.

You will find you learn just as much from each loss as each win, (What to change or do differently next time), and most of your opponents will be more that happy to offer tips/pointers, simply because you had the balls to stay and fight, and are prepared to learn from your losses.

They probably ran down 5- 10 cloaky/stabbed farmers before finding you.

You can also offer a 'o7' (salute) for particularly helpful dudes or VGF's. And dont be surprised to get a '7o' (Drunken Salute) from a 'Brave Newbie' trying his hand at solo.

Edit:

Switch the rep for tha AAR - Ancillary Armor Repairer.

Use Meta 3/4 Rocket launchers, and ALWAYS use faction Rockets.

Train Thermodynamics to 4 asap, pre-overheat your top slots, and those 3 changes alone should double your performance.

And head here for more fitting ideas: http://www.evealtruist.com/p/know-your-enemy.html

And set the AAR to not auto-reload. It's better to let it fall back to wimpy mode if a fight last that long than to have it offline itself for 60 seconds.

While in most situations, saying gf after a fight is a decent and well-mannered thing to do, there are some cases it is impolite.

For example, if you just gang banged a solo pilot bringing logi, jams, and 10x the numbers, it isn't so much a good fight (unless yall are in shitfit frigates). As such, saying gf after the fight is more akin to rubbing salt in the wound than being polite. Now, if the solo pilot says gf first, then it is impolite not to say gf back.

Thanks for the advice!

I've used meta 3 launchers on an earlier fit. I'll prioritize thermodynamics and get some faction Rockets next. I will try with DC2 today since it'll gives more theoretical effective hitpoints compared to the fit with plate + small armor repairer. I also need to train the armor repair skill to make AAR viable.

Bear in mind that some of the ships have been changed since the posts at EveAlturist were made, the guy's stopped blogging as far as I know but his blog is still fairly essential reading. Play around with his recommendations in Eve Fitting Tool before committing to a fit.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

My guess would be on a shorter "nah", as in he didn't think it was a good fight.

Also, whenever you overpower a solo guy with like, 20 people, make sure you have them all say "gf" in local, possibly several times. No seriously, I'm not being ironic. Saying nothing makes you look like an unfeeling blob, acting like it was an actual good fight is (probably) disingenuous, being mean is mean, so the best route is to make fun of yourself and overexcitedly insist it was a great fight.

If you get blobbed, that means you got outplayed. Don't be mad, just say gf and be on your way or say nothing at all. Don't whine in local even if you are pissed, looks pathetic.
