Can anyone tell me if salvage tackle offers a bonus to salvage drones chance of success? I am doing easy missions with small frigs and cruisers but my salvage drones fail 70% of the time launched from a drake or Vexor.

The Vexor has 2 damage amps in the low and a drone control augmentation in one high slot. I know the Vexor drone amps and augmentation have no effect but was wondering about rigs.

Also what about drone interfacing skill? It says it increases mining. Salvage is kinda like mining. Ugh Now if we could just be able to tractor asteroids.Lol

Thanks

Drones fail quite often due to low access difficulty modifier. As far as I know, nothing affects them except Salvage drone operation skill. That said, they are still enough to salvage regular wrecks.

Have you tried checking this on EFT or the other fitting tools?

That rig should increase your drones salvage rate...

Salvaging rigs don't affect salvage drones.

Rig affects only Salvage Modules. Not salvage drones.

I've had no problems with salvaging at level 5.

One thing that does puzzle me though.
Shadow Serpentis are easy enough to kill but an absolute swine to salvage. It's got to the stage where I have had to destroy the Shadow wreck so that my salvage drones will go to the next one. Has anyone else had this problem?

I don't recall this problem with a salvage module..

Is there anyway to command the drones to "split-up" and salvage a wreck each without being manually instructed to do so ?

Oh... They should affect them (better for us if that would be the case hehehe) ... Cool

That's because Shadow Serpentis counts as “elite” ships and thus create elite wrecks. Those wrecks have an access difficulty of -10. A Salvage Drone has a base access chance of 3%, +2pp per level, for a maximum access chance of +13% with your skill at lvl V. Mix the two, and your chance of salvaging is a mere 3%. At lvl IV, you're down a single percent per cycle, and a lower skill means it's outright impossible to salvage.

Compare this to a Salvager I, which has a 25% access chance at lvl V, or a Salvager II with 35%. This leaves them at 15% and 25% against that wreck, respectively, and then you can get additional bonuses from rigs and the like. Granted, the compound probability from a full flight of 5 drones (at lvl V) should be ~14% (~5% at lvl IV), but it can still feel like forever before you roll that elusive 97+ on your D100.

So your experience is pretty much what's to be expected from those wrecks.

Thanks for that.

Being completely non-numerate i.e. an arts graduate, I had no idea of the stats regarding salvager drones.

Ah! a D100, I haven't heard of them since I gave up playing D&D in my distant youth, though I still have a full set of dice kicking around somewhere.

Forgive my noob lack of knowledge as I have just started playing EVE, but I decided to try my hand at Ninja Salvaging for the time being, and wanted to know if and how the salvager drone's description applies. The description basically says that if the wrecks are yours the drones will salvage in a "set it and forget it" manner, going through all the wrecks in their range. On the other hand it says that if the wreck was not made by you the salvage drones will still work, but would require a direct command to do so.

I take that to mean that just letting them loose with no target and commanding "Go Forth And Salvage" ( Not the command, word for word ....but you know what I mean) wouldn't work and that a "Salvage" command with a wreck targeted would.

Are my assumptions correct? Can anybody confirm or deny this?

I would think that if my assumptions are correct, then drones would still be useful for ninja salvaging but would require more micro management, not necessarily of every single drone but of the drones as a group, which could essentially make them salvage each individual wreck faster.

I am probably going to end up buying a bunch of salvager drones anyway and testing this myself, but wanted your opinion on whether I would be wasting my money at the moment and should just buy them for when I'm doing mission running myself.

From my experience, this is correct. You have to target and direct your salvage drones to each wreck that is not yours.

Surrender is still your slightly less painful option.

If you just right-click the drones and hit 'Salvage' with nothing selected, they'll automatically salvage everything in range that is yours.
