Quick Advice on Ship Selection

I just rejoined this game after almost two years, and I'm not really familiar with how ships have changed.

This character was originally created to eventually pilot Nightmares for incursions, but after a significant amount of points were invested I switched off of that and onto, what I am assuming, was going to be either Maelstrom or Machariel piloting for level 4's and/or PvP. I don't remember; it was two years ago, and I don't have the file for it anymore.

Now, what I have is a character with rank 4 in all of the relevant spaceship command skills for frigate->battlecruiser in all four factions, with Amarr battleships being worked on. I have level 4 in small, medium, and large energy and projectile turrets, and a handful of other, supporting skills. I can still pretty much take this character in whatever direction I want.

The problem is, I don't know what's good anymore. Unless there's not a more lucrative easily solo-able combat-basted means of making money, I'd like to stick with my original plan to skill up to do level 4's, and branch out into PvP from there.

TL;DR, what I am asking is for a quick recommendation on some good battleships or battlecruisers I can use. I don't have a bias toward any single faction. If I could get a recommendation for 2 or 3 ships for PvE and 2 or 3 for PvP and maybe a quick explanation why you recommend them I'd be grateful.

WB sir, just went through the reacquainting experience myself.

I'm assuming you're located in Amarr space? If so, the Paladin is looking awfully sexxeh these days. The Abaddon is mostly unchanged from the last time you were here. The Nightmare is still damn good.

In most other parts of the galaxy, the Maelstrom, Mach, and Vargur will still do you well. I would suggestion using artillery until you get T2 guns, then go for AC fits on each.

Pick your poison, and we EFT grease monkeys will cook you up some fits.

Thank you very much.

Yes, I'm in Amarr space, but I'm not married to it. My standings with other factions aren't low enough to outright prevent me from moving to another.

How are Caldari and Gallente ships fairing right now? Any decent ones out of them? When I last played, missiles were amazing for PvE (if used on the Drake,) but mediocre for PvP, blasters were hurt by range, and railguns were useless. Is this still true, or were rails buffed? So far it looks like I'm going Abbadon while I save up for/skill up to a Nightmare, but this can and probably will change.

A couple more questions. How do these ships fare in PvP nowadays? Are battleships the go-to for PvP currently, or do battlecruisers /cruisers still perform very well there? How are ships like the Naga and the Oracle doing nowadays? The tier 3 battlecruisers of all four races are visually my favorite ships.

If you want to do L4s look into the Maraurders, Golem, Paladin, Kronos, or Vargur, also look inot faction ships like the CNR, Navy apoc, Rattlesnake, Mach, Vindy, and T3s Tengu, Legion, Loki and Proteus. Those usually work best for L4s, Marauders are the king of PvE again.
Train for any of those and a lot of the skills you train up to help you will also help in PvP. Need any help, or pointers just mail me and I'll help you as much as I can. Also if you are looking for help in PvP or looking for a good and friendly null alliance contact me.
I do L4s for SoE, if you are interesting in doing L4s with them let me know in mail and I'll help you get up to do L4s and get in a good ship to do them in.
Fly safe, and happy hunting.
