Audible enemy alerts

Given that the AI already has the ability to associate Colortags with War Targets, Neutrals etc, an Audible Alert will be a great advantage for pilots who are engaged in lengthy, repetitive activities like mining, especially in Null.

Attackers now have an easy task given that mining and ratting locations are instantly known to attackers upon entry into a system.

Paying attention to Local can be hugely assisted by an Audible Alarm - surely a simple, sensible feature for sophisticated space ships?

This is where intel channels and being at the computer come in handy. Not to mention giving direct advantage to AFK play.

I like it, it only makes sense to have some kind of warning buzzer of a sophisticated internet-spaceship.

This smells like Bacon.

Needless to say, Bacon will get you banned.

A toggleable "proximity alert," triggered when another capsuleer shows up on grid, may be a viable compromise. Paying attention to local / intel channels still gives you a heads up, but if someone shows up in your belt unexpected, on the same grid, some sort of audible sound that draws your attention is not too overpowered.

We have that sound. Its when you get shot at. Anything else is just encouraging AFK play.

This is basically completely and absolutely true.

This is true, but better situational awareness through sounds is greatly needed in EVE.

People will always find ways to automate/afk play, its not a reason to limit sensible features for everyone though. Warning sounds for various actions/situations only prompts someone to take action.

The same could be said for stargate activation sounds - sure it was handy for alts in the back ground but it was a nice feature for active players as well.

I +1 this idea, we need more situational sounds in eve.

I think a warp-in / warp-out sound would be the ticket, tbh.

A proximity alarm isn't going to do jack if you are AFK, but if you are at the computer and have been mining for hours it will help snap you out of that zen mining mode.

One could argue that gates shouldn't flash and wormholes certainly shouldnt "wub wub wub" when one passes through them. As those effects promote "AFK" play.

Tell me again about how every playstyle you dont engage in "doesn't require any effort" and everyone who does it needs to die in a fire. Be sure to mention about how you tried it once but it was too easy/boring/ethnic-homophobic slur.

EVE has sound?

Also, this sounds cool initially (Guard's widow in the trailer comes to mind) but then you realize it'd get annoying fast. That and imagine 'contact' alerts playing when you have a fleet fight and 10-20 ships hitting grid.

Or a 200 man blob.

How are whs and gates encouraging AFK play? You cant AP through a WH so you need to be there anyway.Where say a guy who is mining who is reading or whatever should get a sound to notify him when someone is close.

Why does the guy sitting on a gate or hole reading or watching TV get a notification?

He is just as, if not more AFK than a miner will ever be. You have to cycle targets every 3-4 minutes while mining, I can drop an alt on my static in a tasty ship and i get 4 separate notifications that there is a visitor, never even having to even open that client.
