Give Characters Two Separate Name Slots (permanent, unchangeable names)

Characters have one main displayed name as is currently the case but add and another 'locked' slot for an Alias Name.

Access to this locked slot can only be given by an a agent for a large fee of isk (500mill?) - agent can be accessed only with certain skills/standings in place, e.g. consider only making the agent available to characters with Social/Connections/Diplomacy at L5.
The agent charges a fee and the slot is opened up so a player can create a new name also linked to the character. To enable the main name and alias name to be swapped, have another isk fee, perhaps 500mill again. (in all, having a new name displayed will cost 1 billion isk plus lots of training/missioning time)

EDIT: to clarify, both names are clearly displayed in the character info pane and both names are fixed to the character permanently. A name can never be deleted/replaced - EVE has consequences!. One name is the given name and the other is the alias. An option to swap given/alias can happen but this is only between the two linked names and this 500 million Agent/Concord admin fee any time the swap takes place. Cool

Choose your names carefully !! (the option to choose a second name is difficult to earn and is expensive so this is less likely to be an undesirable name. This should also help the market for selling characters and is an isk sink.)

Also - CCP should reclaim any trial account names that are more than one year old. This will help to release decent names back into the game. The expired characters would simply have their names replaced with 'Caldari Citizen 12345' etc. with an option to choose a new name afterwards in the unlikely event that the account is activated and the player wants to reuse the character. (only do this to the most likely permanently inactive accounts - trial only and over a year old!)

So, what's the difference between this and the existing first name / surname? Other than that you can swap them (not sure why you would want to).

I agree with reclaiming names of trials that were never activated.

TL;DR: ability to buy charname slots(aliases) for 500 mil (PLEX) and be able to freely swap them for another PLEX. Aint that a bit too much?

Opinions are like assholes. Everybody got one and everyone thinks everyone else's stinks.

....ability to buy ONE extra charname slot (alias) for 500 mil (NOT PLEX, MAKE IT IN-GAME) and ...?

So for example,

  • this character was created with the name 'Solhild' - any character search of that name will reveal this character

If I work my way through the game doing missions, earn standings, train the right skills then eventually pay an agent 500mill, I have the ability to add a new Alias name, for example 'Mary1234' but only if that name is not already in use.
this character is still 'Solhild' but the character info will now include the alias 'Mary1234' - any character search in either of these names will trace back to this character.

  • I am now completely unable to add or change any names or aliases. The two I have are fixed forever!

I can track down the same agent and swap my main name for my alias. If I do this:

  • this character is now 'Mary1234' but the character info will now include the alias 'Solhild'

Total cost 1billion, the names 'Solhild' and 'Mary1234' are not available to anyone else, both linked to this character until this character is reprocessed.

I can sort of see this working, but the big question for me is... why? Why would dev time be put into this? The only reason I can think of is having the ability to pseudo-rename bought characters.

Actually I'd love to see something similar but with different angle: to have an optional alias which IS NOT REQUIRED TO BE UNIQUE. And whenever my name is looked up it would always reveal both alias and proper name. So if I decide to have alias "Snake", I'd be seen as something like "Snake(hmskrecik)" or "hmskrecik(Snake)".

In such case I'd see no reason not to be able to change an alias at whim but I'd be also okay if it was permanent once set.
