Thanks for the clarifications but, how about commenting on my assertion that players apparently need to monitor social media and/or third party sites in order to find out what's going on in Eve? Can you guys please try to assure that info gets posted here on the forums or, somewhere on a CCP-owned website first? Thanks!

I don't follow the assertion. In this case it was someone putting out a statement that we didn't put out! Why would we make sure that quotes that aren't really quotes are quoted on our own site?

Refer to the lack of any announcement in Live Events forum, the supposed home of Live Events, of two new channels for Live Events.
That is what we are talking about. We shouldn't need to monitor 50 different sources. I should be able to log onto the EVE Forums, Read Live Events, and know about official things going on.
It's great if we have a Live Events Twitter that also duplicates all the official information as well, and it's even greater if social media does spread the word as well, but we shouldn't have to use any outside programs or media for basic information. And that has been getting worse for live events in the last few months. I'd go as far as to say it's gotten terrible.

+1 to This. Not saying that there shouldn't be other sources available (CCP Twitter, Facebook, Twitch etc.) to help spread the flow of information, but the primary source of official information should always be this Website, any other official feed should reference back here for Details and Discussion rather than have, for Example, Twitter Exclusive Information.

This is exactly what I said in my original post. Using third party sites, social media, etc are great as supplements but, shouldn't take the place of CCP's own official website. As someone said above we don't all have the ability or desire to monitor several different media in order to find out what's happening in Eve, nor should we have to.

Please take these requests as reasonable bits of constructive criticism, devs. Overall you do a good job of communicating with us but, using this site as the starting point for official info on Eve would make things much simpler for us customers.

I wasn't only referring to that incident. There have also been other cases as well, the most recent being the announcement of the upcoming expansion video stream with the devs getting posted on a third party site before it was announced here.

I am super confused. Do you mean here as in eve-o or here as in LED?

There's nothing to communicate for events, so we haven't been posting, I'd go as far as to say that's the correct approach to take. The two new channels are for interaction with actors and devs in and out of character, as far as I know. Falcon and Eterne will be able to comment more concretely on this.

Yup, this is the case, they're there for OOC and IC interaction in game.

To answer questions regarding why we didn't announce them here, it's simply because there's only player presence in them right now, we aren't using them actively at present due to the fact that we're currently not running live events and are still in the planning stages for the future, so there's little real need for people's presence there.

The intention was to "Officially" announce them when we kicked off live events again. Me popping into OOC to explain that the channels were being set up was simply a courtesy call at the time to let people know, in case people wondered why there were suddenly no longer people stopping by OOC. Smile

We'll add them to the sticky when we start utilizing them in game after kicking off live events again.

Is there a tentative timeline on that kick off?

Bah, kids these days. Back in my day, if we wanted to learn about an event, we had to hear about it through random folks flying around just to get into the right channels, which changed weekly due to in and out of character diplomatic bickering. The players had eyes and ears in every system and the GMs would just pick one and start doing stuff, and we had to organize ourselves into taskforce fleets, and counter taskforce fleets, and counter counter taskforce fleets.

And once we found a plot thread, we had to fly about at random while the GMs spawned deadly massive fleets on cloaked scout ships for giggles. Then we had to pilot through heavy interdicted wormholes to get there and back, up hill, both ways!

And we liked it!

Keep up the great work, devs!

Luxury! In my day, we had to spin our ships, rookie ships mind, for four straight days just to access one channel which changed every 20 minutes. The players didn't have eyes and only ear in every fifth system and we had to organize our fleets to counter the counter of the counter counter taskforce fleet, AND wi' no boosters active.

If we were lucky enough to find a plot thread, we had to blindfold ourselves and orbit the sun while the GMs spawned cloaked planets onto wormholes while spit-taking, then we had to pilot through Sansha's back garden where he'd turn us into a slave, work us down't pit for 5000 years, and then get back to our station (well, I say station, more like a gas cloud in a wolf rayet) where Dad would biomass us and feed us to t'fedos.

Players aren't supposed to moderate the player-driven, emergent behavior, sandbox content? News to me.

I meant as in the Eve-O forums in general.

I was speaking more in general about devs using third party sites to make announcements but, using the specific case I mentioned above (which just happens to involve this sub-forum) as an example. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

Please don't bother wasting our time with lame live events that get everyone killed after waiting several hours trying to get to the even location. I could just stay in my home region and fight the local goons there instead of spending 2 hours of TiDi warping around to constantly changing staging points.

This event seemed poorly executed.

1) Warping 23+ Jumps under TiDI should never be part of an event. Either reinforce the systems that we KNOW people will be in (assuming the system was picked ahead of time), or have the form up closer.

2) Giving a null sec bloc notice that we will be near their staging systems in about 2 hours time is a sure way to guarantee a camp.

3) Your "Actor" told his fleet that the enemy was "Strangling kittens in front of puppies". So any chance at immersion was nicely ruined.

2 Hours of warping to a gate camp is not an event.

Please don't bother

+1 seconded. Please, don't bother with doing live events anymore. You suck. Stick to doing what you do best, breaking features of the game that work fine and fixing things that don't need it.
