Arrum ... Kickstarter for EVE Alliances?

Let's face it. Running a guild / corp / local biker gang costs money. So ... let's pay for it in a secure and meaningful way.

I propose that CCP work with vendors of websites and various other metagame products to forge strategic partnerships for the sole purpose of servicing EVE's community. Or just paying to host amarr-exoticdancers.com; if that's what that player wants to do.

Corporations having their own websites funded by themselves with Aurreum (or however it's spelled.) Teamspeak servers, ventrillo servers ... eve-central and icsc's jumpplaner .. all paid for by donations of plexes converted into Aurroom.

The thing that sets this apart is two fold. One .. anyone can get a plex through isk or money. So, in theory, a corp can do a mining op every few weeks, buy a plex off the market, and have a Teamspeak server by putting that into the corp bank.

The other thing is .. Players don't recieve money. They get a service provided by CCP or one of the partner websites.

CCP takes a commision .. standard for "middleman" stuff like this is something on the order of 10%, and the Aurumm (I vow to never spell that the same .. horrible name.) goes into a holding account. Once it's in there, it doesn't get back to players. The corp/alliance owns it.

Areum for meta? I think it might work. But you guys are going to see the title, see red, and move on... right?

I get that ppl are passionate about change. I post here to plant seeds. You see your idea as is? Holy **** you win! So let's post, and see what the DEVs and our peers use.

Never been a fan of aurum and doesn't seem a lot of people are either - they'd be better off doing away with it IMO and making better use of PLEX and ISK.

One of the biggest problems is that it was mainly focused on micro-transactions but requires for the most part bulk purchase via PLEX and that kind of system never becomes mainstream, people rarely will buy in above what they immediately want.

EDIT: As per your original point ignoring the aurum aspect its definitely something that CCP could look into supporting better as a whole and encouraging.

Just trying to minimize development cost. Half the back end is in already. Just re-name it or something.

Yeah I don't disagree with that aspect just never been a big fan of aurum - I was one of the first to jump on the dual training via PLEX option and while its something that might split opinion I'd be happy enough to do likewise for extra (non-gameplay affecting) content like custom skins, etc. (even corp services like TS) but I really can't be bothered with aurum.

There is already plenty of players providing website/forum/killboard/comms/etc. hosting for ISK in the sell orders forum. No need for CCP to waste their time on this.

Okay. But CCP wants to enable immersive gameplay. I think this is one way to do it.

  • It's traceable
  • You have a company, not a person, backing up the transactions.
  • [*] good possibility of getting deals with providers.

With the recent RMT from a certain popular "community service" site, it should be obvious that this idea would backfire right at CCP very soon.

Then there's a question of moderation of said sites and services.

And a question of taxes and legality.

Overall - it will create a legal mess of who's actually paying for what and who is responsible if anything bad happens.

Besides, CCP already provides personal forums for corporations on this website and the game has EVE Voice. That's a form of community support CCP decided to go for.
