I've been thinking about the future of mobile devices and what they offer current EvE players. I think that developing an EvE client for these devices would be good future proofing for CCP. Tablets are getting more powerful, todays tablet could run the original eve client better than my computer that ran the original eve client.

I've been considering making my own video game, which is why I am going to college for Java currently, I wanted to make an mmorpg like EvE but across all platforms using java or unity. I think CCP is missing out on a growing market with lots of potential.

I don't think it would be too difficult to make something like this work, you could make the application free to download and play, and then allow users to purchase plex or isk through the interface to keep the game running, you can design an interface that works well, or allow users to use the standard interface with a blue tooth keyboard or controller.

I think valves new controller would be great for eve online.

This seems doable, but the quality of your internet connection could be huge, impact wise.

First, apart from item icons, a basic client doesn't need to be more than text.
And the item icons can be simplified as needed.

Yes, this kills a good chunk of "click to navigate", but many pilots use overview and bookmarks exclusively.
The game could be surprisingly functional with an almost purely text base, being just the readouts for the overview and ship status.

Imagine an overview, where the status bar extends into health bars like a watchlist / drone interface has.
(Put the background behind these health bars to reflect their standing to you, giving you a means of at a glance recognition of your priorities)

A good touch screen interface for EVE could truly open up new worlds in gaming experience, and that is something a pad can handle.
