Tutorial improvements

Hey everyone!

I was watching the CCP stream on twitch and someone expressed a feeling that tutorials are hard and should be made better. Although I did not feel they were hard at all, I do think that they should be a bit improved, even though they are already better than they were for veterans.

The thing is, when I started, I didn't know for example that I could do the tutorial missions on all the stations that capsuleers are directed to. I think it should be stated to the player that if he still feels that he has room for improvement and that he would like to try tutorials again, he should go to the other stations and things like that. This way, the new player can get a better idea of how things work, after having done them one time already and, by doing all the tutorials available in the game, the new player can get quite a good amount of isk for the next adventures.

I have also been told that we can do tutorials on the other factions as well, but that I did not check. Now, if that is true, another thing I think could help would be that the capsuleer would get different ships from these other stations. So, being Caldari and doing tutorials for Amarr it would be possible to receive the Amarr ships and get a better feeling of the other factions too. If that is already done, than forget my suggestion because I did not know.

Another thing that is lacking is training on EWAR too. If I recall correctly, the new player only learns a little bit about webs and points, but nothing of ECM, tracking disruptors and the others. I think the tutorials should show more of that too.

Well, thats all I thought about this. It would only benefit new players, but I think it would help them learn more and earn a bit more so that they wouldn't be so afraid of losing a ship, since they would have already quite a few stocked through tutorials.

Tell me what you think of this and thanks for reading it.

You can do tutorials for other factions. It's a neat way to improve faction standings, actually, since they give more than normal standing.

They're not exactly super-profitable, though, and if you're flying around to collect ship rewards, you're going to end up with your assets spread across the entire galaxy. I guess it'd feel more rewarding than your typical missioneer-start, since the standard level 1 missions aren't exactly interesting. Maybe they should simply improve the "Storyline" missions by having them sequenced as an "Advanced advanced combat" tutorial?

As for EWAR, I think you could have that as part of the Advanced Combat tutorial line. I remember being confused and thinking Hacking, EWAR and ECM were all the same thing for quite a while...

While the following is not directly related to what you said in your post, I thought I'd add my more abstract thoughts on the thread's title:

I think the best tutorial upgrade would be a UI upgrade.

For example, the Odyssey system scanner overlay was a huge improvement for new players, not just because it looks pretty, but because it gives you the opportunity to take initiative and do something that isn't explicitly asked for in a mission.

In contrast, when I finished my tutorials, I was left with the impression that mining and missioning were the only possibilities, because exploration, trading and industry didn't leave me with any tangible idea of where to start or how to actually make money off it. I tried scanning down the closest systems, and with the old probing mechanics being what they were, concluded that it was a waste of time since there rarely was anything there, and when I finally found something, I couldn't scan it down.

If Chribba told you not to trust him, would you?
