yes. can be used to scan overseers to see what they will drop when killed, and if it isn't very good.. come back tomorrow (talking escalations here since they reset their 24h timer when you warp in)

At one time you could scan the overseer in the Worlds Collide level 4 mission, haven't tried that for several years though so it might have changed (and they generally dropped crap anyway).

It can also be used with those npcs who go between stations. Just kill them on the way into a station, not the way out.
