Mentoring program

Hello everyone,

When I started playing EVE it was very hard to get in it. The help chat channel was always full of ppl asking one question after another so it was very messy. Tutorials were good but so much wasnt covered in them. I had many questions but it was hard to find answers. I wish there was some more individual way than mass help channels.

I saw this thing implemented in some other games and i think it would work in EVE too.

Mentoring program
- Experienced players (Mentors) may volunteer to help new players (each player may mentor 0 to 3 noobs - to maintain some quality and individual approach)
- New players (Noobs) who finished tutorials may request a Mentor (only those who finished tuts to avoid questions that were answered in tuts)
- Requesting Mentor would take some time (you would be waiting in a queue). As a Noob requestion a Mentor you'd fill in-game form giving some basic info about you (like what would you like to do in EVE, what would be your long-term goal, what are you most confused about, in what area do you want help and idk...)
- Mentor requesting Noob would get a list of suitable matches - Noobs speaking same language (or language he can speak) for example. He could choose a Noob he likes and start mentoring him
- When the Noob feels he doesn't require a Mentor anymore he can quit the mentoring program
- When the Noob don't like the Mentor he can request another one (get back to waiting Queue). One Noob cannot have multiple Mentors at the time
- When Mentor doesn't like the Noob he is mentoring (abusive language or idk..) he can stop mentoring him - that will return the Noob back to waiting queue for another Mentor

Also there would have to be some rules.

Rules
- Mentoring program must not be used for scams (griefing in noob systems is a no no too so this is a must)
- Mentoring program must not be used to recruit people to your corp

I think this feature would improve the game for all new players. It would bring more individual approach which i missed a lot when i was new. Not speaking of having experienced player as a friend , forging new friendships etc.. Having a volunteer speaking your native language to help you and ask your questions would be nice i think.

Also i know EVE community is very capable and active but in this case i believe it wouldn't be good enough to just create community website (or service) because this thing would need to be offered to new players who finished tutorials (ideally when all the tuts were completed they'd get a mail or anything). Creating just another community website which would be overlooked by many new players wouldn't lead anywhere.

What do you think? Is this good idea or it wouldn't work? Let's discuss :)

PS (edit): And yes i would volunteer to help new players. Thats why I'd like to see this implemented in some way. (And also excuse my bad english, i am not native speaker)
PPS: Sorry i just noticed there was this suggestion few years ago: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=682091

If YOU are the one setting this up (rather than CCP) ... it could work pretty well.

I mean, we've already got Eve-Uni and Brave Newbies (among others) ... though more can't hurt.

As mentioned in that other thread, there is the "Help" (and "Rookie Help", if you have a sub-30d account) channel as well ... but I find that sometimes turns into a morass of useless quibbling because someone misread something ... and then don't feel like having constructive discussion on whatever that topic was...

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Isn't that exactly what a player owned corp does for new pilots? At least that's what my corp does...

One of my most vehement suggestions in rookie help is to join a player corp (right after actually *reading* the tutorial text).

yeah, but there are a lot of "bad" player corps. Not to mention that it's a way to get help if you're not in a corp yet ... I know I hung around as a rookie corp pilot for a while (3-5 weeks)...

The problem with Eve-Uni and Brave newbies is that it's just another big place full of hundreds of players. It's nothing individual. Moreover those are corporations so they have rules. Rules that are very limiting. Also you shouldn't have to be limited because you have to learn things. I think a lot of people would appreciate doing whatever they want to be doing and at the same time not being limited by being in some big corporation with many rules, wars etc..

And small "noobs friendly" corps are mostly not targeted at learning. Lots of them are just to make mony from taxes..

I'd just like to see more individual approach that wouldn't limit anyone. That you wouldn't have to join specific corp to get help in your native language. So that noob could do whatever he wants to do, explore the universe and stuff, and still be able to get personalized help from "a friend"..

I guess since I run my own corp and we do focus on supporting and training our noobs I'm a little biased. I agree that E-Uni has too many rules and is a bit restrictive for my taste (it's why I didn't join them and decided to start my own corp in the first place).
