The problem here is that the more Blink Blast tickets you own, the better your odds of winning the Gold Magnate. Sure, everyone that plays Blink can a get a few free tickets ... but a tonne of rich dudes are gonna give Somer their ISK and play thousands of blinks to increase their odds.

This Gold Magnate giveaway just increases the size of Somer's wallet. It's not like the money from this event is going to the Homeless Jita Orphan Fund.

I too would like CCP to give me the opportunity to increase my wallet size substantially.

If CCP wants to give away Gold Magnates, then they should run a simple lottery ... one ticket per account holder. Every player in EVE has a chance to win. (And yes, some people have more accounts than others, nothing is perfect ... but it is a far cry better than giving Gold Magnates to some 3rd party website ... which CCP can't even confirm is totally legit ... they only have a suspicion it is legit.)

Of course. The chances of CCP backing down are next to nil. If anything, CCP is more than likely to double-down on this. Hell, they might even give you more Gold Magnates.

CCP, if you'll recall, doubled-down on Incarna and $60 monocles, until someone in the company said "Hey, we're actually losing accounts over this. A lot of accounts."

Since I doubt people are going to cancel accounts over this ... the Gold Magnates are not going to vanish from your prize pool. I might as well get a couple tickets in there.

But I will ***** about their decision in the meanwhile ... so hopefully it never happens again.

My first thought when I read about this was 'so what?'. As Malkavien above stated. Some Joe will win it (them). Some rich collector will buy them. Joe will never want for Isk again and the ship will likely never undock. Absolutely nothing will have been achieved in terms of real content.

At the same time I'm thinking maybe I should sign up for a Blink account. I've always resisted the urge, even though I've been in receipt of several Somer Blink sponsored prizes via RvB Ganked roams. But at the end of the day it is a gambling site and ultimately the vast majority of users will lose money.

I haven't got any particular moral objections to gambling I just understand that if you play a game where the house take a 7% (?) cut of the proceeds, you are almost certain to lose money. 7% doesn't sound a lot, but all gambling instituitions know that the average Joe only quits after his losses reach an unpleasant amount. If he wins he will come back again and again until it's all gone.

I've know loads of people who have won great prizes through Somer Blink, it is human nature to brag when you win. But when you lose most people shut up. Only two people have admitted losing to me. One lost 50B, another was buying Plex to fund it.

The real result of this will be thousands of new Somer Blink accounts and while most will only lose a bit and then give up. Some of those people will seriously ruin their Eve experience as a result of this.

I'm gobsmacked that CCP would associate themselves with this and I can't help but wonder why they are so far up Somer Blink's arse? Are CCP that strapped for cash that they are going back to the 'Greed is Good' mentality, via the back door?

In any case, if CCP do not change their mind on this, I'd like to congratulate you on this unprecidented blessing. I personally believe that the hard work of your group should be applauded and rewarded, but I'm fairly sure you had that side of things taken care of without the need for CCP to take this troubling course.

I find no fault in you, just because CCP has decided they want to re-issue limited edition content (when there is no need to) and give such a large gift to your player group (regardless of the good works it may be put to). I've been the beneficiary of too many windfalls to righteously complain about others getting their share.

I fully understand you have an interest in the outcome here too, but this may be one of those situations where it's best to stay out of the line of fire.
