What happens to uncompleted research/copy jobs if POS lab taken offline?

I am involved with a corporation who has been war dec'ed - I currently lease some of their copy/research slots.

They operate a hi-sec POS which contains several labs.

It has been decided to leave the POS in place & bring online defensive & offensive structures. To do this they propose to cancel all research/copying jobs, offline the labs & move these in station - using the available CPU & powergrid to anchor defensive & offensive modules.

I am told that I will need to cancel all my research copy jobs & that they will need to be re-installed once the war finishes. My question is, does this mean that when I re-install the copy/research jobs do these have to be begun again from scratch.

I have searched for an answer but can't find anything definitive.

Postscript (edit) - I have found a very old post (2007) which suggests that the if the lab is offlined then unanchored & installed in station (re-packaged). Then once the war is over if the lab is unpackaged, re-anchored & onlined the copy/research jobs will resume (with the loss of time it takes to end the war). Does that work??

If you cancel a job you will lose everything related to the job and have to start from scratch. All materials (including bpcs) or research / invention time is lost. BPOs will end up in your corp hangar.

Offlining a structure will simply suspend any related jobs and you will be able to resume where it was suspended, once the structure is back online. Unless you canceled the jobs ofc.

I've never tried this yet, but my guess is that unanchoring a structure will have the same effect as canceling a job. Though you will still have to cancel the job manually in the ui to get BPOs back.

I have turned off my labs and left the BPO's in there. The research stops but nothing else goes wrong. Simply online them again and the research starts ticking away.

I would like to point out that if you have expensive BPO's (like capital ones), sometimes the risk is not worth it and you should cancel the research and bring the bpo to safety. On a related note, train your remote skill to 1 so you can buy an office at the NPC station and install bpo's from the npc hanger instead of putting them in the labs.

I should note that it is their POS. They can do whatever they want with it. I generally pull in my labs so if the POS goes down, I am not out the ISK for them. The last war, I just off lined them and onlined the defenses. You cannot un anchor a structure that has anything in the hanger.

It does, and the job disappears from the UI, so there's no need to manually cancel (in fact you can't)

If a lab is put offline the the jobs are effectively paused. Just like when you pause your skill que to do a clone jump. every stays in tact, just does not progress until the lab is put back online. However if the lab is unanchored or destroyed everything in it is lost. if you were remote researching BPO's they will be returned to your corp hanger they originated from.

This works, I have done it several times. If you are just doing remote ME/PE research you have nothing to lose by leaving the jobs there. If the POS/lab gets destroyed your BPO's will be back in your hanger just as if you had cancelled the job. If not and the labs are put back online your jobs will resume.

Any job that is cancelled, either manually or thru a lab being offlined or destroyed loses everything earned so far on that job. Research jobs that are reinstalled will start from scratch. invention or copy jobs will lose all materials except the BPO's.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

In light of your information I convinced the POS owning corp to simply offline the labs, online their defences & sit back & wait. They were worried about the cost of replacing the labs in the event that the POS is taken down, but a simple cost / benefit / risk analysis leads one to this obvious position.

If the modules are off-lined, progress stops. But otherwise nothing else happens. Progress will resume once the module is onlined again. If the jobs are canceled all progress is lost and any consumable items are lost. BPOs will be returned to the hanger in which they were placed.

If the module is destroyed, everything in it is lost. I've heard that BPOs undergoing remote research from a station will get stuck in the aether and require GM intervention to get unstuck. But that is a rumor I have yet to (dis)prove.

There is no need to unanchor the labs. As soon as they are offlined, all resources that were formerly allocated to them become available again without unanchoring. You cannot unanchor labs that have things in them.

Array Offlined: Job is paused. Job can be resumed later when the lab is online again.

Array Un-anchored: Job is canceled. Materials are lost. BPO returns to wherever it was when the job was started.

Array Destroyed: Job is canceled. Materials are lost. BPO returns to wherever it was when the job was started. Anything in the array drops according to the standard loot-drop rules (50% chance per item, max volume is limited to a single jetcan).
