A speedier Retriever?

Hello Guys

I'm still trying to get mining working for me.

I have just bought my 1st barge - a Retriever.

Before buying this I had found ways to make mining in my venture ultra-speedy - mainly through the use of a micro warp drive to hop from Massive Scordite to Massive Scordite.

Is there anyway to speed up the Retriever?

Not really. To be honest, it shouldn't move much. It's got 15km range on the lasers, that's without Orca boosts. Can shred a lot of rocks before needing to move

If you want to move from one end of the belt to the other, bookmark an asteroid where you want to be, warp to the nearest planet, warp back to your bookmark

Not really. The Retriever doesn't have enough capacitor to use prop mods. It doesn't even have enough cap to warp across large systems in one hop with warp drive op skill to 3. Train navigation skill to 5 is about all you can do. For some situations, you can click on a specific asteroid in a belt, save location, warp out, then warp in to that bookmark. This is a good tactic for some grav sites or travelling from one side of a belt to the other. You're going to want a survey scanner in that mid slot anyway. It comes in very handy and can prevent you from sitting at a roid for most of the strip miners cycle and end up with no ore when another miner is mining the same rock and depletes it.

Thanks Guys - I hadn't thought of using regular Warp Drive as a way of travelling over short distances faster :)

Or get a procurer, which is faster and far less likely to be ganked >_>

Tank your barge, brah.

Operating in High Sec at the mo and have paid for the Retriever three times over in a few days.

Will look at using a different ship in Low/Null Sec.

It doesn't have enough capacitor power to warp in large systems (100+ AU) in one go. All capacitor related skills at 5 max warp distance without any implants is 93,84 AU.

He means, get a procurer for high. See, there's mean people out there (like me) who enjoy exploding mining ships. Rettis are like delicious candy to us.

Trust me, you'll like the Proc. It's quick, you can hook up a tank, and the small ore bay encourages you to remain ATK.

7.2 CAN I AVOID PVP COMPLETELY? No; there are no systems or locations in New Eden where PvP may be completely avoided. --Eve New Player Guide

Calibration is for rigs, you'll find them under Ship Modifications on the market.

The post above me is correct. The rigs bear further explanation though. The are a cost/benefit item. They give bonuses in one area while negatives in another.

Mostly they are use to give more armor or more shield, but they can also be used to expand CPU or Power Grid so you can run tighter fits.

They can do more specific things as well, but that's getting into a long story for another thread.

Very sound advice, so many miners I see in high sec these days are AFK mining, so much I almost want to make a alt to gank them with. With Lv2 stripminers, and the crystals for the Ore I am mining you could not afk for long, as I deplete rocks in about 2-3 passes.

I'm going to get in so much trouble from my friends for knowing this, but here is what you do...

In the systems you regularly mine in, go to the belts, in your venture, but not to mine. Find and bookmark a couple of spots per belt that are close enough to the roids (15k). Go to next belt, do the same. Then get back into your retty and warp to the first bm. Mine, mine, mine.. when that spot is done, drop off your cargo and warp to the next BM. Since the belts don't move, tomorrow, rinse and repeat. You should have to do very little slow boating using this method.

In low/null might as well go for max yield or biggest bay because the Proc/Skiff's tank doesn't matter for diddly since your attackers have as long as they want to kill you and you can do mostly nothing about it but but wait to die. This changes however if you are flying The Procurer Bait for your gang, but otherwise proc/skiff won't help you out of hisec.
