What if I had never created an API key, nor created an API information sheet, or whatever it's called. Are other players still able to track which are my alts, and which is my main?

If you have never given your API key to someone they will not know who your alts on that account is, or your skills.

Thanks for your reply. I see. Then the only other way would be through detective work? Reading all of the posts one makes in forums or what they say in-game for clues about stuff? Or is that just too hard to do?

There are ways to discover it but its a lot of "guessing". Employment history, the way a person type, logging on and off at the same time as another character, frequently using the alt to scout for the main, having them in fleets together, buying the character using your main to place the bid and so on.
Basically you can become pretty sure if someone is an alt or not but if you make it a point to make the characters separate (dont share chat channels, corporation or fleets) and dont tell people about it chances are high no one will ever find out who your alts are.

If they care enough they will.

Also many corps want an API key for background checks so expect to get rejected from those.

And anytime you're killed in PVP there's a chance the person that killed you posts the kill report since both killer and victim get one.
