Cloaking, iirc, came from star trek & specifically the klingons. Klingon warships could shoot at targets while cloaked, the trade off was much lower defenses{no shields/armor}

So what exactly is your idea? Why is it needed? What are the downsides? How would you balance this idea? How do you think it should be implemented?

Are you being serious?

So what exactly is your idea? Firing while cloaked.

Why is it needed? To silence the farming carebears

What are the downsides? Sheer terror & emergent gameplay causing tears.

How would you balance this idea? 0.0 & w-space only, no shield & armor tank. Always appear on dscan with range.

How do you think it should be implemented? They can see you once u start shooting but you don't appear on the overview. In order to be targeted, they have to click ur boat and then lock target.

I would be ok with this. The only problem with your analogy is that there are other drawbacks to that in the Star Trek universe.

1. They had to warp at slower speeds.
2. They had the drawback of not being able to fly through gases or nebula.
3. Ships could guess where the ship was by where the shots were coming from and shoot back. (we cant because we have to lock)
4. Most ships with cloaks had some disadvantage to them allowing them to be discovered if you knew what you were looking for and were actually looking make it possible to scan down a cloaked ship.
5. probably more things im not thinking of at the moment.

You give us the ability to scan down cloaked ships and fire at them while cloaked and give them more disadvantages than they have now and I would let you shoot cloaked.

Romulans had the cloaking device before the Klingons, and they had to decloak in order to shoot...

So, you're a bounty hunter. No, that ain't it at all. Then what are you? I'm a bounty hunter.

The Enterprise was also able to force a de-cloak of an enemy ship in at least one movie.

FFS...only 1 Klingon Bird of Prey had the ability to fire cloaked... and it was a prototype that uber-WTFBBQd by a ship full of senior citizens and a ship manned by a Captain who was a little 'light in the service boots'.

I don't think it is any more daft than the nerf cloak threads.... P

A more realistic proposal would be saying you briefly decloak ( as a mechanic not forced) when bombers launch their bombs, in that brief moment they can be targeted to break the cloak and they don't have to deal with the strategy of quick warp off because if they aren't targeted quickly enough it auto recloaks ( always felt that was dumb).

To me its the only viable version of what you are trying to (seriously?) propose.

Edit: Rethinking it cloaking really needs no change, mine proposal being the only viable thing I can thing of as a modification. It would be god awful if someone could target paint you cloaked and have a bunch of cloakers firing missiles at you.

The question that I have is: If you shoot someone cloaked, is it actually an offense?

I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.
