mech games and old games

Recently felt nostalgic and dusted off my gamecube and fired up my copy of Robotech : battlecry.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robotech:_Battlecry

Still as enjoyable as the first day I played it. Fast paced dog fighting while in jet mode, tough and rumble mech fighting (for its time) and using the speed of the jet mode and the flexibility if the mech mode in dog fights too take down fast interceptors still felt good.

Now my question. Has any other games like it been created recently? I have heard about strike suit zero but the reviews left me a bit sketchy about dropping money on it.

too leave this a bit open ended another question. Out of all the older games you have played which one would you like too be redone or have a graphical over haul, or just a simple sequel too continue on past genius

Only thing i can think of is mechwarrior online. And im hit and miss on that game.

Dont think theres any of the "traditional" robotech games. Ive seen a bunch of mech games here in japan but i believe theyre for the domestic market only.

You are probably my new favorite person. I loved that game so much. Haven't played it in forever, but I have nothing but good memories...except for the level where you have to protect the Cat's Eye. Satan created that hellish nightmare of a level and it shows.

As for any recent, similar games, none really come to mind. The only ones I can think of that are even remotely similar are the Armored Core series, but the only real similarity there is the speed of gameplay. That's about it. No transforming mechs or anything like that.

I wanna say there are some Macross/Robotech levels in the latest (as in it came out like 3-4 years ago? maybe?) Another Century Episode game, but I'm not 100% sure. Either way, it's only available in Japanese and I've never played a game in the series. Also, it's not so much a Robotech game as it is a anime mech fan's wet dream so there's that too.

And, when you say older games, do you mean *any* old games and not just mech games? My goto answer will probably always be a new Darkstalkers games, but Capcom seems hellbent on not giving a **** about that series. Then again, they seem to care very little about anything that isn't Resident Evil or Street Fighter so it's whatever. My 2nd answer would've probablly been Guilty Gear, but we're getting a new one of those soon so at least I can look forward to that :)

The cats eye level sucked ass and yes the second question is any game. I try too leave my threads like this with another avenues for discussion.

As for armored core I have heard about it bet never picked it up so with the enthusiasm in your reply I think its going to be a must get Big smile

I can't say I've played the game you linked - but the description reminds me of Strike Suit Zero.

Reviews are - well - someone elses oppinion and usually don't faze me to much in my decision to buy something. As an oppinion it will never be objective as you can't objectify "fun" as much as they may try to. All the people that say "It's to hard." are the same that applauded on the difficulty of Dark Souls. So what's your actuall opinnion ppl? Yay or nay for difficulty?
I bought it and didn't regret it.
Whether you wanna drop money on it or not is your decision.

All those that didn't get a sequel that was worth their name and all those that didn't get a sequel in the first place.

Impossible Creatures
Freelancer
Earth 2150
Dawn of War 1 (I really couldn't get into the ... style of RTS that 2 was)
Ground Controll 1 (2 was kind-of-meh)
Star Wolves 1, 2, 3 (to a lesser extend, the idea is good but they are so ridiculously buggy it's maddening)

That's all that come to my mind right now. X: BtF has received wonderful sequels.

MechWarrior 3 All you need.
Steel Battalion Had a crazy expansion called Line of Contact and I would love for it to come to PC with its honking big controller.

There was this ancient pre-PC Mech Game on the Amiga, I think it was called "MechForce", but I am not sure anymore.
It had a beautiful hotseat mode and we spent whole nights beating the crap out of our Mechs.
Good old times.
And sad the so few games nowadays still have a hotseat mode- the only one I can think of right now would be the Heroes of Might and Magic Series.

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

Would love to see MissionForce CyberStorm modernized, without dumbing it down.

Those Mechs in the MechWarrior3 intro are as big as 40k Warhounds xD

There were quite a lot of Mech games back then - a few even "survived" (Armored Core ^^). I allways liked Mech Commander more then the first person variant. Yay for RTS/TBS. On that note - Heroes of Might and Magic III was awesome - IV was crab, V was awesome (though I missed Solmyr :,( ) and VI is crab again... so yeah a modernized III would be cool.

The only modern Mech game i can currently think of is Hawken... oh and MechWarrior Online - haven't checked on that in ages though. Is it allready up and running?

@OP
I remember having seen something similar to SSZ and kind of fitting to the description on E3. Strike Vector or so I think it was called.
