I played EVE brieflyl several years ago, but I've just returned, and a lot has changed. I'm wondering if it's best for new players to use one of their neural remaps early to speed the training of basic skills. Is there a concensus of the conventional wisdom on this practice? Or is it a bad idea? When I used to play we didn't used to get such high attributes, and they weren't all even, so I'm not sure what the best strategy is.

Kinda depends on your training. For new players its generaly bad to remap since they need skills all over the place, for returning player (older account/char) you may have the basics and can focus on a field of your choice

Poke around the forums a bit. This question comes up fairly often, and some people have made some pretty good recommendations of a few different "balanced" mappings to use early on.

If your character is low SP, your best bet for a combat pilot would be an even split of Int/Per for the first year. Don't use any remaps beyond that until you know enough that you know what you need to use them for, why, and when.

EvE is supposed to suck.  Wait . . . what was the question?

Balance remap to get the basics up of every area you will not be using your remap for is the best way to start.

L2-L3 a ton of skills.

Then focus a remap and work up a chosen specialty.

Only takes a few days to get all those low level skills up.
