Eve Fitting Tool Defense Question

I decided to try and work out what the tank on my current mission ship is like so I downloaded the EFT and imported my skills and fit.

All of the statistics in EFT were the same as in game (DPS, Resists etc) but for some reason the defense seems really low.

At the moment the Sustained Defense of my ship is only 63 ehp/s and the Maximum Defense is 136 ehp/s both of which seem very low.

I had a look around the forums to see what the usual numbers for these would be for level 4 mission ships and most people seemed to be saying between 600-1000, way above what I am getting. Except my ship does handle level 4s quite well, I only struggle with very difficult missions against rats that have really high resists to my damage. I'm sure I must just be using the fitting tool wrong, but I'd like to see a more realistic number.

Any help would be appreciated, sorry if I am missing something very simple.

You have to tell EFT the damage pattern of the rats you plan to fight, otherwise the default is against 25%/25%/25%/25% I think.

600-1000 tanked dps sounds like a lot for level 4s. If you have a decent damage output you only need to tank like 350 dps or even much less on a BS, depending on the mission.

I don't know about Guristas though, as I don't fight them that often, but their missiles can hit you from very far away so it could be a different story with those.

Ah right. Yea I changed it to a profile of 50% EM and 50% Therm (because it is an Amarr ship with EM/Therm resists in the fit) and it went up to Sustained: 152, Maximum: 325. Which is probably about right because my ship doesn't have a great tank.

Guristas always kick my ass in missions though, because the resist EM/Therm and because I have low resists to whatever it is they do (Kin/Exp?).
