The GM should switch that to a warning (not a rule) for players about recruitment scams in the channel "never join a corp that asks for lots of isk, look out for scams ccp does not moderate the channel".

Making up rules... yea..... what the hell.

And good luck stopping the scamming in jita.

The recruitment channel is basically a newbie system for our new players to learn the art of scamming. GM Thunder cares more about two year old mission runners keeping their CNRs than newbies learning about a celebrated part of the game. Sickening.

Newsflash you jackasses, if you're rich enough to get scammed, you're rich enough to know better.

I joined this game because of the tales of scamming.

Hell, I don't scam, but I love playing a game where someone might catch me out with one.

The use of Icelandic Mind Reading Devices (IMRDs) is nothing new.

How else would they have known exactly what to create in order to draw in millions of subscribers through Incarna, right?

What's that you say? They can't read minds? Well, that leads me to believe that this particular GM's flight of fancy can't possibly be enforced since they can't possibly know where you found any given person whom you might or might not have scammed. "My friend Jake told me he knew this a-hole and I should scam him, so I did."

Of course, they also can't prove a scam in the first place as long as you never admit it. Just because somebody handed you ships and isk doesn't mean that they were scammed... it means they were stupid.

There are loads of corps out there that legitimately charge fees to join and not as part of a scam.

Granted, those corps are pretty much all terrible, but they do exist

Does joining a corporation which advertises in the Recruitment channel with the intention of ripping it off also constitute a bannable offense now? Or is it just taking advantage of people who should know better but don't the thing that is bannable?

This smacks of uninformed/incompetent GM overstep, without fully thinking through the effect of the policy, or even without thinking through the entirety of what the policy would constitute.

For example, I heard that at one point DNS simply charged a flat membership fee instead of using corp taxes. Their reasoning was that taxes were unfair as they did not apply to all forms of income in game. I find this rather insightful.

So everyone who gets scammed for anything now will claim they were in the recruitment channel and so will get the scamming player banned.

This is such a brilliant move! Go CCP!

Or awoxing, or spying, or any number of things. All of these are up for interpretation now.

How about recruiting people and then shooting them in game because CONCORD will not intervene anymore? As this is an intended mechanic to allow for PvP training in highsec, is this scamming? How about the CEO or director walking off with corp shared assets promised to members?

This is the order of things:

Scamming in recruitment is illegal...
Scamming in populated areas is illegal...
Scamming is illegal...
Corp Theft is illegal...
Awoxing is illegal...
Spying is illegal...
Betrayal is illegal...
Lying is illegal...

The system is designed so that players know (or should) exactly what they're giving and what they're receiving. It's not an exploit of any system that scammers in recruitment use. It's pure charisma and deceit. The moment you decide we aren't allowed to lie to people about letting them into our "super elite guild", you must also make it wrong to lie about any other aspect of the game. You must make it wrong to ransom enemies. You must make deceit in diplomacy illegal.

Hell, perhaps even strategy will be illegal.

"The enemy acted like he was going to a gate, but he cloaked and went to THIS gate instead! He intentionally deceived me in order to escape my wrath! I DEMAND A KILLMAIL!"

Even a warning would be ridiculous. If you warn people about specific corporations, you single them out and put them at a disadvantage in real game terms.

And if anyone reads this and disagrees with me, then you're clearly playing the wrong game. This is Eve. CCP promotes Eve as a cold universe where corporate espionage and strategy and even metagaming is a good thing. This isn't a game with sunshine and ponies (although, how awesome would that be?). If you do something stupid, you deserve to pay the price. If you keep playing after you do something stupid, you probably won't fall for it again. However, the moment a GM intervenes and makes it illegal for someone to put you in a position in which you do something stupid, not only does that add arbitrary rules to the game, but you don't learn **** and you'll always be a terrible player.
