While I am not an engineer or server administrator I can give a brief overview: a live remap disconnects all players in the system and removes all ships from space similar to a downtime.

The command to remap everything other than Z9PP-H from the current server node was mis-entered. Instead of moving everything else than Z9PP-H, the command was given to move everything else than Q9PP-H. Therefore Z9PP-H (and everything else on the current node) was remapped with the fatal consequences we see now.

Every live remap of a system, and this remap is no exception, works in such a way that all players in the system are disconnected and all ships are removed from space. The usual player logoff mechanics with all associated timers are just not relevant during downtime or live remaps.

Please also note that further information is currently being compiled to give you a more detailed overview.

I would say that the server state before remap is extremely relevant.

I have no qualms with a node remap during a fight if the server state is saved, which means that both (all) parties involved in the fight remain locked into the fight and cannot chicken out just because of the remap taking place.

Is it safe to say that Test won today? Because if the CFC won, this sure is a lot of crying.

it happend like freacking 15 minutes ago, PR might not even been called out of bed yet. so just wait before you make a comment like that, wouldn't suprise me if they come with a public statement/news ****

Yes, I'd like to hear their carefully crafted "yes, after much contemplation of the universe... screw you."

Given how our CEO updates go, perhaps they should hire The Mittani to help out.

I'm going to just give CCP the benefit of the doubt. It sucks, but c'est le vie.

But the smugness from TEST et. al. is so false. But for CCP's "oops" your entire capital fleet would've been annihilated.
You might want to dial the smugposting, just a bit, considering your asses got saved by an oops.

In spite of all the idiots sperging on this thread, I have one honest question: Why weren't the tackled capital ships still there when we logged back in?

They were in warp disruption bubbles with agro timers. According to everything I know about logoff mechanics, they should not have moved anywhere, regardless of server crashes, characters log offs, or any amount of tinfoil.

I'm willing to accept that it was a simple mistake and there was no foul play, but only if you can give us a solid explanation for why the carriers disappeared from the field, in contradiction to well-established logoff mechanics.

Please explain CCP.

While I am not an engineer or server administrator I can give a brief overview: a live remap disconnects all players in the system and removes all ships from space similar to a downtime.

Why does this system require typed in system names instead of a physical drop box for what systems are on whichever node you are balancing out?

A majority of all server administration is done via command line pretty much world wide. GUIs waste system resources, and just limit what you can do. Not to mention it's rather hard to automate repititve tasks. Many tasks are automated through scripts.

Well even if it isn't GUI, and I do understand that reasoning, why is not an auto-complete based on available systems to be moved from the node?

And why is there no sanity checking for the inputs?

There are about 10 different problems with "Q9PP" and only one or two of those are related to any possible GUI or GUI-like management utility.

"military-grade hardware" means it's outdated by several generations and made by the lowest bidder

The CFC won the fight by a longshot but was denied the ability to curbstomp the entire TEST capital fleet, which would probably have ended the war.

We're being polite and letting you extract your ships safely. Wouldn't want to dunk so hard that you won't field battleships again for ages. Fights are fun.

Shh, don't talk about that. Goon leadership never told the line members that happened. Can't let Goon morale take another hit or the march on VFK will be rather boring.
