Problem on Alienware M17x R4

I'm not sure if anyone on here has this particular model, or if they do whether they have experienced this issue. But I'm at my wits end trying to figure it out.

I recently purchased an Alienware M17x R4 laptop specifically for mobile gaming, most notably Eve. It runs the Radeon 7970m graphics card, which apparently is a decent card at the moment. But so far I haven't been able to experience its awesomeness in Eve as it won't recognise that the GPU is on board.

Instead, Eve chooses to run the Intel 4000 integrated graphics and does not list the Radeon as an optional GPU.

Also, after I exit the game, my screen turns into a pink and orange mess that requires me to log off or restart to fix it.

I should point out I am running Win 8 on there, but I'm not sure how applicable it is to my issue.

Does anyone have a solution or advice they could provide on this matter?

Well there's your problem.

On a slightly more helpful note, i just bought a budget laptop that runs on the same integrated graphics and i have the exact same issue. But i just close the lid and wait a few seconds and that always fixes it. Sorry i cant give anymore input though i wish you luck with the fix.

Edit: Actually try re-installing the driver if you haven't already, That helps me usually.

Hmmm...seems like you bought Alienware, not realizing it was actually this.

What have you tried so far?

The first thing you should check is if your GPU drivers are up-to-date. To be sure, just go to ati.amd.com and let them search for updateable drivers.

Second I would do is check if there are people with the same problem and see if they found a way to fix it. Just google on "7970m not recognized eve" and you get a lot of results.

The first result on my google was this site:http://en.community.dell.com/owners-club/alienware/f/3746/p/19492122/20301917.aspx

When you read that story you learn that the default dell drives are the cause of your eve client not recognizing the 7970m GPU. Fix that by going to... (see "The first thing you should do above") Big smile

Then you still have the coloring issue. I suggest you also follow the advise in the topic linked above, that seemed to solve it for that guy! But I guess you could also set eve client to be windowed (fixed window) so you have less problems using alt+tab too.

Early bird gets the worm. Breakfast I like my eggs sunny-side up.

And bacon, oh god don't forget the bacons.

I had a similar problem with my Asus G-74sx laptop. Updating the latest video drivers fixed it for me.

For the multi-coloured mess - have you changed your window setting to Fixed Window?
