now as a nerd i would love to see CCP implementing the warp that is like what is seen in Star Trek/ Star Wars where you insta warp (still have to align and charge the warp core). or is that too OP like my other Autocannon idea? also when exiting its an insta exit not the slow exiting that we have now.

It's probably something they'd like to do, but the warp code is so old and convoluted that nobody at CCP knows how it works anymore. They really don't want to touch it.

Since people want more reality in our fluid universe space submarine game, lets make warp speed look how science has determined it would look. Linky

Much less graphically intensive...and a programmers dream!

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

That is bad coding practice.

I would much like them to change from warp-drive to hyper-drive, like in Stargate, the actual warp tunnel we have right now, already much resembles it anyway.

For the people who don't know ( god i hope there aren't many of you :P )
A "rift" opens up in front of the ship and the ship gets sucked into it ( just by the looks of it ), the reverse happens upon exit.

People are complaining that the new jump effect is too abrupt as it is... if the warp effect was even more so some peoples heads would evidently explode.

I'd just like to see different ships accelerate into warp with different speeds.

Ships like interceptors have faster warp speeds but they go into warp / come out of warp just as slowly as other ships. This means in smaller systems where warp distances are relatively short, warp speed doesn't make any difference at all.

The animation isn't that important to me, I'd just like to see this mechanic improved.
But like somebody already mentioned, CCP apparently doesn't want to touch such an old code.

also forgot to mention, what about stopping mid warp? now that would save a lot of ships from ganks and such

Heh if only. I've brought up something like this before, much to the ire of the forum peoples.

I like the way the Dominion trailer portrays the warp sequence; how the Nyx instantaneously ceases after leaving the warp bubble.

The warp animation is there to cover the time it takes for the client to unload the current environment and load the new one.

If it's a loading bar, the current animation or a video of a dude hitting himself with a brick doesn't really matter.

It's still just there to look pretty while the client gets set up for the new system.

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

A space sim with a true space look would not be pretty.

Only the white light spectrum can humans see, so the universe will be rather gray looking. Unless EvE takes place near the galactic center of a galaxy or in an global cluster, not many stars, either (images used in EvE are Hubble or deep field which are time lapsed to gather more light, which shows otherwise unseen stars...not space as it is [want that, look at the snapshots from Apollo and ISS, almost completely black space]).

So enjoy the fiction in science fiction. Blink

You're aware, of course, that this is pretty much the excuse they use in relation to every subject in this game? They used it for missiles, they used it for warping through planets, they still use it for drones, etc. If I didn't know any better I could swear that CCP had a conspiracy going around the office to strategically recycle excuses in order to do as little work as humanly possible.

The code isn't exactly getting younger, either. I'm just tired of hearing the same damn excuse every time someone utters the unholy words that would lead us towards Progress.

Of course I'm aware. I'm just saying that that's the answer you should expect.
